A host of top Democratic donors are making their support of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi known as her bid for House speaker is under fire from a group of younger, largely centrist Democrats.
god I hate her
More proof we live in an oligarchy
Can't she just fall down in front of a bus falling off a cliff?
Just curious, why exactly would Pelosi be such an awful choice? I hear it brought up that she's very corporate and not as far to the left as some would like, but as a political party it makes a lot more sense to choose someone who already has tons of experience and respect within the democratic party to rally around than it would be to give the job to a first year rep without that level of clout. What other choices would be more palatable?
They don't even try to hide it anymore.
At this point in time people are sick of corporate shill Democrats. Speaker Pelosi is just a continuation of that shit.
Based on what policies? I haven't heard any specific controversies about her, and Ocasio-Cortez threw her support behind Pelosi as well, so I'm more wondering what are the black marks against her
From what I understand, based off previous discussions on the topic, the biggest problem people have with Pelosi is that she is very vocal about capitulating to the Republicans. "Bipartisan to a fault," one might put it.
I've seen people assert that she is willing to give up pretty much all concessions in order to appease the Republicans and have them agree to Democrat policies. People assert that she will happily compromise away all potential bite in policies and completely neuter them, to appease the GOP.
Which is a stance that a lot of people take issue to, because as I've seen quite clearly, the Republicans have no interest in playing fair. They'll dilute and disarm any and all Democratic policies they can manage, and then turn around and push through their own policies, uncompromised, in the same breath. With Pelosi as speaker, they'll be able to accomplish exactly that without contest.
This is what I've been able to piece together as to why people don't want Pelosi as speaker. If I got something wrong, or I missed something, please feel free to correct me, anyone.
Medicare for all and getting money out of politics, which are non-negotiable issues. She's raised over ten million dollars from corporate PAC money. She's beholden to these big donors, not her constituents.
Interestingly I've heard both that sentiment and the exact opposite, that she was a strong opposition to Bush in 2007 and 2008.
The establishment Democrats really do a great job at sealing my feeling of hopelessness and that the entire government is against us.
A lot of people feel like the establishment is not interested in working in our favor, for example the healthcare debate in America has been going on for decades. In addition to that, the establishment completely fucked up the 2016 election, which should have been fucking easy to win if they were actually trying. But apparently they took a nap and thought they'd wake up with the Presidency.
If they shoot themselves in the foot in 2020 again we absolutely deserve another four years of Trump. Hopefully we can clean the filth out of the Democrat party.
Yeah, that's extremely shitty journalism.
Nobody who actually cares about the ideals the Democrat party is supposed to stand for wants her around anymore. Get rid of her already.
I'd like to think losing to Trump for a second time would encourage a Dem purge, but I'm doubtful.
People act surprise, the ones who have been in power the longest are going to do whatever they can to stay in power.
Yeah there is a new generation of people who are active in politics and care about normal people. But in reality, most of the republicans and democrats are status quo and only want to solidify their power. They don't give a shit about anyone other then themselves and their corporate sponsors.
Good news for the Dems is that they can only lose twice. Why bother changing if that's the case?
This right here. There is no and there cannot be any compromise with the current Republican party. The republicans have thrown all hints of moderate thinking out the window. We currently have a president that is an actual fascist (this isn't just extremist talk, Donald Trump exhibits all 14 signs of fascism according to Umberto Eco), working to destroy minorities and their families through unjust means of removing actual legal residents of the United States, in the mean time doing everything he can to enrich his fellow upperclassmen in one of the most corrupt governments since Warren G Harding, all while the other two conservative branches of government laps it all up. To compromise would at this point mean to simply let them win and establish more authoritative measures for them to be able to control the government, as well in the mean time oppressing peoples who alone cannot stand for themselves. When it comes to the alt-right, you cannot take the high ground, because taking the high ground only lets your enemy have exactly what they want as they're willing to compromise on their morals where you are not. You cannot compromise with them. You know what happened the last time moderates attempted to compromise with far-right extremists? 6 million Jews dead, another 5 million political and war prisoners, and another 80 million from a world wide war, all because they believed they can control the extremists. You can't. They will simply use your compromise against you and overthrow you until you're lying on the ground wondering how the hell they took over an entire country, just like they have before with the case of Merrick Garland. All you can do is fight fire with fire until the world stops being such a mad place, because otherwise there will never be a sane world to come back to. It's part of the reason that some antifa resort to such violent measures, because they know for a fact that the alt-right is abusing our institutions of free speech and freedom of the press when they would never allow us to do the same.

Doesn't she open her mouth without thinking a lot? Like, she claims victories before the battles are over.
Progressives in Congress are already backing Pelosi, partly cause promises were made to get more younger and progressive members into positions of power. As much as people don't like her, fact is she's effective in handling the very diverse members of the party, she's a great fundraiser, and she's the most left candidate actually running for Speaker of the House. Weird enough its the moderates making it harder for her.
In my opinion, because no one else has stood up I say progressives are making the right move here. Start developing progressive alternatives for 2020, meanwhile pushing Pelosi and the House to the left right now. Pelosi would've retired in 2016 had Hillary won, I doubt she'll stay for long if things go as planned.
Damn, everyone's in bed with Pelosi. What a shame. This country is dead.
Pelosi is the most left candidate who is actually running for Speaker (and the only one running at all now that Fudge has been kneecapped). Pelosi is just "meh" personified.
I don't like Pelosi but unless a better candidate steps up she's our best option. Fudge's record LGBT issues is questionable and she's the only serious challenger.
Wonder how she bent all these progressives to her will. Nobody has a spine any more it seems.
I think it's just Cortez and others picking their battles. Or she just sat down and talked with Pelosi and she convinced her.
Well AOC is spineless if Pelosi, the personification of what she should be fighting against, convinced her to join the enemies. Shows these days just how weak and fragile people are. Washington needs
to burn or be glassed at this point. I've lost all hope in anyone representing me or my generation. Because it seems even my generation can't fight back without succumbing to threats, bribes, or "convincing".
Dude, you should like such a fucking stooge. Name literally five problems you have with Pelosi. I'm willing to bet the only reason you despise her so much is because she's been a GOP smear target for so long, and any issues against her are much more severe in her further right challengers. AOC realizes that.
