• NASA to conduct "safety review" on SpaceX/Boeing because Ol' Musky Blunt hit

... Among other things. (title limit too short tbh) https://arstechnica.com/science/2018/11/nasa-plans-invasive-review-of-spacex-after-musk-smoked-weed/ https://twitter.com/SciGuySpace/status/1065050987470249984 https://twitter.com/SciGuySpace/status/1065051422541131781 https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--DYzhEdDi--/c_scale,f_auto,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/ktw4onnfqnqcl6hpmkbk.png
Ah yes, because Musk is SpaceX's lead engineer. Pretty obvious this is politically motivated.
From someone in this industry, this is seriously needed. They've been pushing engineers to the brink with the speed they're moving at and I'm 100% in some way neglecting safety. Regardless where the order comes from, a safety review will always be a good thing when it comes to launches, especially manned missions. If this catches something, I rather it be now rather than after an in-flight abort.
I would argue the alternative to Commercial Crew is demonstrably more dangerous. Of course they shouldn't be allowed to run free of consequences but citing the weed thing is ridiculous.
Did you know? Cannabis stays in your blood stream for decades, causing hallucinations of giant spiders and dead children. Weed must be stopped at all costs.
I think it's possible NASA was already looking for a reason to audit them on safety, with almost 100% sure pressure from other giants (Boeing/ULA/Aerojet) and this might just be all the reason they need. I agree it's bullshit on paper, but if it does turn something up I think we'll be glad it did.
While this does seem politically motivated it does also come at a pretty critical time when both vehicles are about to enter design freezes if not already and production vehicles are going to be built for manned missions, it seems logical to do a deeper safety audit at this point.
It'll turn up some minor bullshit so that a congressman that has a Boeing factory in their district can tell Congress that Elon is a pot smoking liberal and SpaceX is unsafe. It's 100% political. https://twitter.com/SciGuySpace/status/1065052012344213504?s=19
If you actually watched the stream you can easily tell that Musk didn't even *inhale* that *one* puff he took. He just tasted it and commented on it.
NASA is already making SpaceX/Boeing do more testing than they're doing themselves for SLS+Orion. This reeks of "we need an excuse to shut down or at least delay Commercial Crew so it doesn't make us look bad / take jobs away from the freeloaders building SLS". And they're definitely safer than Roscosmos, which is who they're actually competing with right now. This is just dumb politics.
Rely on Soyuz The space craft that just had an attempt at sabotage and a massive failure resulting in an abort.
what on earth are you talking about
woosh

Would you like to move in with me? I can feed you and take you on walks.
Looking at someone right now that injected serious weed smoke and is hallucinating as we speak
ah, yes, the fatal injection of a singular marijuana. i forgot about this meme. i was really out of it earlier
NASA's first and second in command just said this week that it is likely that they will move towards cancelling SLS if/when BFR/New Glenn are flying. Two of Senator Shelby's (senator from alabama who has been using SLS as an endless source of pork barrel campaign motivation) staunchest allies in congress just lost their seat, so this review is almost certainly politically motivated with the goal of extending the duration of SLS's life support. i'm fine with a spacex safety review, it's a necessary part of human spaceflight, but it's a bit strange that they choose to do it right now, and it could also potentially be MORE dangerous to do it now if it delays DM-1 and DM-2, and therefore CCS-1. right now american astronauts are flying on soyuz, and while soyuz has a good track record it very nearly killed an entire crew very recently and had another safety incident mere months ago, not even mentioning the fact that the head of roscosmos literally accused american astronauts of sabotage so that they could 'go home early'. roscosmos' problems are endemic and sooner or later their lackadaisical quality control is going to result in a loss of life.
yeaaaaaaaaaah let's not cancel SLS thanks.
Why don't they conduct "safety review" on Trump, he has been "smoking" Putin's penis for a few years.
New Glenn is better
