Ridicules that the men were not charged with a hate crime and sent to rot.
Over the past few years, the authorities have sought to curb alcohol-fueled offenses while sustaining tourism, a source of revenue on which the island depends.
This is a huge conflict of intrest.
I remember this story. I also remember zakyntos, apparently half of it is closed off as a wildlife preserve for some turtle, the other half is a popular spot for partygoers. It's like the setting of a far cry sequel.
Friend who lives in Crete says that going down to the beach and throwing drunk British tourists into the sea is a common source of entertainment there. And that for Greek people getting publicly drunk is a source of shame so it's much rarer to see them drunk on the streets, compared to tourists that basically only come to drink.
Mentioning "hate crime" in these parts is ground to being put on a list to get shot the instant society collapses, so nobody really cares or believes those are real
This is true. Greeks usually feel that drunk people in public are a disgrace to the human race and make fun of them, or avoid them altogether
I heard that this sort of tends to happen in zakynthos, never passed through that place whenever i went to mainland so i wasnt sure how often it really was.
So how do you get assault charges for killing someone?
From what i heard the judges went on with the footage they got and compared with the forensic pathologist's findings charged the assaulters depending on how severe the damage they did was. the bartender and two other people were only charged for simple assault and were released shortly after, while the briton got 15 years for intentional bodily harm resulting in death and the serbians from 5 to 10 for grievous harm. I suspect they had difficulty deciding who wanted to intentionaly cause death and who joined up to just hurt him or they got tired with the whole ordeal and wanted to just get over with it.
I suppose thats why the brits are drinking to oblivion
I really like this opinion.
I personally don't mind drunk people in public as long as they don't bother me so i want to hear your opinion as to why you think like this. The only time i went to a place where people got massively drunk was in Copenhagen and my then partner told me to stay away from the bar because it can get really dangerous for anyone close by. Drunk people in my city can only be found in the bad parts of town usually.
You think wandering around tanked off your mind is something to feel proud about then? I don't condone what these people did but god damn, have some dignity.
Yeah, beating drunk people to death is way more dignified, I agree.
are you literate? I said clearly I don't condone what they did, but if you think staggering around like a poorly spun top has any dignity you've got another thing coming
