(AP) - More than 10,000 low-income Kentucky adults no longer have access to a federal program that helps them buy food after state officials slowly reinstated rules requiring them to either get a job or do volunteer work to keep their benefits. The rules for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps, have been in place since 1996 when they were signed into law by former Democratic President Bill Clinton. Kentucky was exempt from those rules following the Great Recession that began in 2008. As the economy has improved, Republican Gov. Matt Bevin's administration has slowly let most of those exemptions expire. Of the roughly 54,000 adults eligible for the requirements, slightly more than 10,000 have lost access, according to data analyzed by the Kentucky Center for Economy Policy.
Just in time for Mitch Mcconnell to run for re-election. "We approve of you starving to death on principle so we can lower revanues and cut taxes!"
Aw fuck i hope those guys dont have the exact same set up for food stamps that we got up her in Idaho; cause up here the system is rigged to make sure either dont get it or dont have it for long (dispite the fact that many of us are working at shitty low paying job that barely keep us living)
fuck matt bevin
*snap* Yep.
My parents needed to live off Food stamps when my dad was in the Air Force, this is just shameful.
Kentucky's Mitch McConnell has publicly stated he wants to cut entitlements to make up the deficit. Kentucky please dump Bevin and the turtle.
Foodstamps give like 150/mo to each person in a home. So rathwr than spend a few million per month statewide feeding people they would rather let 10k starve.
pretty much, these programs only provide a pittance for people to sustain themselves compared to giant military programs that waste millions on boondoggles without batting an eye.
The old people of Kentucky asked for this by voting along partisan lines instead of looking at what they need in their lives, reap what you sow.
Rebublicans vote on fear not what helps them.
It probably doesn't effect them, and if it does, they will some how blame the democrats
Having our own children starve to own the libs.
SNAP is more likely to be used by older folks and the youngest folks https://www.ers.usda.gov/webdocs/charts/54638/distribution_ers_450px.png?v=0 its just that slice from 35-59 that probably supports slashing it the most.
You really have to wonder how much the people of Appalachia can take the Republicans kicking dirt in their faces before they realize that maybe the Democrats aren't actually a bad option.
In 2016 billionaire coal magnate Jim Justice became governor of West Virginia as a Democrat (his Republican opponent was even worse) and switched to Republican at a Trump rally lol. There are more Democrats then Republicans in West Virginia and Kentucky to this day because of their background in organized labor, but they vote GOP now.
Appalachan is a life brand now, only the manchin style of super local democrat can win.

Gianforte body slammed a dude and still got elected. America is pretty fucked up when it comes to examining "the options".
Kathleen Williams did well in some polling but I'd reckon if John Heenan was the nominee or williams had not argued for awb she could've been carried along with Tester
Rep. Massie Introduces Bill to Abolish Federal Department of Edu.. what the fuck is this dude's problem
"Stop teaching my kids to be too smart and inquisitive to resist Christian Republican indoctrination! And stop telling them about gays or sex! None of that until Missy Anne is 21 and engaged to a straight guy with a full-time job and a truck!" Also probably stop shittalking the Confederation in history textbooks, rebels were proud patriots fighting an unjust SJW-of-the-times bunch of overreaching feds messing with good middle-class white farmers, a healthy dose of that shit.
Already a think to a mild degree. What's bizarre is that the rural/urban divide has made Confederate symbols more popular in rural areas everywhere, from Washington to Maine.
Sounds like tribal identity driven by perceived cultural persecution by progressive society accomplishing several important landmark victories such as legalizing gay marriage and the efforts to advance trans recognition and equal rights. Even though the only "persecution" is... being forced to merely accept coexistence with them, which for at least some is apparently more morally repugnant than selling the country out to the second coming of the Soviet threat.
