Trump Admin asks Supreme Court to fast-track review of Military Transgender Ban

NEW YORK (Reuters) - President Donald Trump’s administration on Friday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review lower court rulings blocking a policy barring certain transgender people from military service, declining to wait for decisions from federal appeals courts currently considering the issue.
Trump announced in March that he would endorse a plan by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to restrict the military service of transgender people who experience a condition called gender dysphoria. The policy replaced an outright ban on transgender service members that Trump announced last year on Twitter, citing concern over military focus and medical costs.
But judges in federal courts in Washington state, California, and Washington, D.C., refused to lift injunctions that they had issued against Trump’s original ban to allow the updated policy to be enforced.
The judges said the new policy was essentially the same as the original ban, or was merely a plan to implement the original ban, which they had ruled would likely run afoul of the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection under the law.
In the court filing requesting the Supreme Court’s review, the Justice Department said Mattis and other military leaders determined that the Obama policy “posed too great a risk to military effectiveness and lethality.”

Essentially they are trying to skip ahead through lower courts because it can be delayed indefinitely. Trump admin clearly thinks doing this will give them an easy pass because of the (R) lean in SCOTUS.
Also, fuck everyone involved in trying to get this passed
its still going to be very hard for them to overcome the pentagon's report from the obama era stating quite clearly after years of review that it would have no effect on troops given their review lasted a month and convieniantly came to the conclusion that Trump pulled out of his ass.
Why do I get the feeling that Mattis likely had no input on this plan and would likely be against its proposal in the first place?
no worry
flag
but why
thanks, fixed.
and there is also a significant amount of sources who say Mattis pushed back on the ban initially (I recall he announced shortly after Trump said he "consulted with generals" that nothing was going to change immediately and several sources say nobody had been consulted and he just decided to tweet it out) However, that doesn't mean he isn't still complicit in allowing it to move forward. The new rules are implemented under his review, which as mentioned above was very fast and could not have possibly produced a definitive result
because they're trying to systematically eliminate the demographics that aren't white christian cisgender males, starting with one of the most easily hated; faggots
let's not pretend it's anything else
it's not a secret either, even the language is coded this way. "Medical costs"? "too great of a threat to effectiveness and lethality"? this is all code for "we don't want none of these weirdos around us because they're snowflake millenial pussies and they just wanna join the military so they can use our money for things we don't agree with!"
but TECHNICALY, wouldn't it be easier to "send them to their own death" in war, instead of sending "the pure christians"?
Trump is so dumb that he even fails to be the brand of evil he wants to be.
(disclaimer: obviously not saying this as a "yeah this is a good/better idea", but from the mindset of someone that wants to erradicate everyone that isn't a white christian, that doesn't makes much sense?)
i wonder how many generals want to strangle Trump to death at this point. Cause last time i checked, recruitment in the military has been in decline. And they have to deal with a president who wants to make bullshit requirements of being a US soldier.
it's better that the degenerates die in poverty of some disease or starvation rather than them getting federal money to spend on their hormone pills or whatever because paying for transgender therapy is evil and offends christ
This is why Republicans saying they strongly believe in The Constitution are hypocritical pricks.
never thought they could find an even worser deal than possible instant death
it was more about the money going to queer child molesters but i'm sure the worse conditions are a bonus to them
Firstly, Trump's only doing this to appease the fundamentalist evangelical base. He's not going about it in a logical way because he isn't actually a christian fundamentalist himself. And secondly, his christian evangelical base - the ones who believe American is a "Christian nation" and think god is on our side in our war against infidels, most certainly believe having faggots and trannys in the military will bring down god's wrath on our army, in the same way their petty god from the Old Testament would make his own people lose their battles if a single one of them was secretly sinning.
The government learned the hard way that oppressed people being given military training makes them harder to oppress. It also makes it harder to run them down when the GOP says it worships the troops.
Don't forget how American culture puts the military in such a high, high prestige.
The only argument for the ban that I can think of that MIGHT be a legitimate concern is during deployment they may not have access to HRT medications and shit like that if they're on it, and in that regard, it's not dissimilar to other medical reasons you need medication for that would prevent you from enlisting
But let's be real, this isn't the reason they're doing it
the ash carter era report covered this in detail, the pentagon already covers more important medication in deployment. More to the point though almost all of the soldiers that did transition did so after their service was up, something that is intentionally misrepresented by the Trump admin.
There's too much Mattis-idolization happening on Facepunch.
Mattis is for disqualifying transgender people except for very, very strict circumstances.
Friendly reminder that the US military would spend anywhere from $2-8 million on transitions, while it currently spends upwards of $80 million a year on boner pills alone
Boner pills do not affect combat readiness.
According to Jim Mattis and his convened panel on the subject, transgender troops do in fact affect combat readiness.
Which is why he supports disqualifying transgender troops for the vast majority of circumstances.
Expenses of medicines or its availability is not a factor as far as I know, so this is just a moot zinger point.
He gets way too much leeway despite being exactly like his bush and Clinton era predecessors

"tremendous medical costs" was literally the top billing reason for the dumb tweet that kicked off this whole fiasco in the first place
Please note before anyone reads forward, I don't have an opinion on this. I believe gender identity should not be a subject which causes discrimination in any circumstance, and that equal rights are a hallmark of a functioning society.
Yeah, a tweet by an orange retard in July of 2017. Before Mattis' panel even convened. Mattis' suggestions to the President were sent in 2018 after a february 2018 report.
The report in question mentions the per-capita costs being disproportionate. And if you compare the numbers, they are. Compare the number of transgender troops vs male troops who use boner pills, and you'll objectively see that yourself.
It's also not a "top billing" reason, it's third in the official report and also much shorter than the first two.

My only point is that this isn't an "orange man say no trans soldiers, God in human form Mad-Dog Jim Mattis says no!" situation.
Again, Mattis is for banning most transgender troops.
