In this thread discuss who you think will win game of the year. discuss which publication you follow for game of the year. discuss awards already won Game of the year publications The game awards - show on 06.12.18 Golden Joystick awards - already decided What is game of the year? Game of the Year is a title awarded by various gaming publications to a deserving game. Many publications award a single "Game of the Year" to a single title that they feel represents the pinnacle of gaming achievement that year. Many games will release a "Game of the Year" edition after winning any of these awards, usually containing all the updates, downloadable content (DLC) and occasionally other extras such as a soundtrack.
This far I'm pretty sure Red Dead Redemption II would be my personal pick, even if I have my own issues with it and it's really not as downright perfect as everyone and their mamas claim it is. I'm also strongly opposed to God of War getting the award, but I'm in the absolute minority on the subject
Care to elaborate on the God Of War thing? I'm not being a sarcastic little shit, genuinely curious.
I'll quote you the very post I made on this board when I finished the game and wanted to express my opinion about it. I stand on my opinion that this new God of War is an incredibly well-crafted game with also tons of entertaining and emotional factor, but it's also a game which didn't deserve the perfect scores it got pretty much everywhere due to, in my humble opinion: An emotional, yet completely straightforward and simple main story which lacks the epic scale of its predecessors, and that at times really feels aimless. A kinda bloated progression and character improvement system, with pieces of gear and abilities very hard to compare with one another and several abilities being downright useless or awesome yet severly impractical. Only a handful of boss fight templates which are introduced once during the course of the game and then repeated ad nauseam without anything new whatsoever for the whole ride. Even optional bosses and the very last fight aren't immune from this. Personally as of now I'd give it a 8 to 9/10 Some time has passed since yhen, but I haven't found yet any reason to change my view about it
Siege deserves best ongoing game but we all know it's going to Overwatch
To be honest, I haven't played many new games since about 2015, mainly for budget reasons. I want to change that starting next year, so once more major publications release their GOTY picks I'll check a few of them out and see which ones pique my interest. So, if I had to choose my pick for GOTY, it'd probably be Bloons TD 6, because I'm fairly certain it's the only game released in 2018 that I've played. I would nominate Deltarune instead, but since I didn't actually play it and just watched a playthrough on YouTube, I don't think I can, legally speaking. That's just be dishonest. If I could chose any game, regardless of release date, I'd choose Westward II : Heroes of the Frontier entirely based on nostalgia factor. I'd been playing it for nearly half my life. If anyone wants to hear the reasoning for my choices (as admittedly poor as they are), I'd be happy to give it.
This is probably going to be a good year for Playstation exclusives.
I'm just hoping they won't find a way to give anything to Fortnite again
the true game of the year is Kingdom Come Deliverance and nobody will convince me otherwise
Only reason Overwatch is ther is because it's a big name. Doesn't deserve the nomination. But yeah it'll probably win it...
I don't agree, I had tons of fun and it was the best RPG since New Vegas, its issues not withstanding
