Deaths won't mean anything to the ghouls in government. You need to attach financial numbers to get their attention.
We're trying. Midterms were a mixed bag; some positive, some negative.
At the very least we can now probably limit the most heinous damage that Mexican-hating orangutan will try to cause for the next two years, but that's about all we can do within the confines of the law.

The senate map was one of the hardest for Democrats ever. A lot of states simply became too red for Democrats, the only real shadyness was in Florida.
2020 is when most Republican seats are up, so with that plus the presidential election it is possible that the US can become 100% Dem controlled and we can start fixing shit rather than continuing to break the planet.
And if we don't, then there is always the guillotine.
