John Kasich, a fierce critic of President Donald Trump who challenged him for the Republican nomination in 2016, is thinking "very seriously" about another run for president in 2020. Kasich, a Republican who is finishing his final term as governor in January, said Sunday on ABC's "This Week With George Stephanopoulos" that he is having "earnest conversations that go on virtually every day" with his friends and family about running in 2020.  "We need different leadership, there isn't a question about it," Kasich said. "I'm not only just worried about the tone and the name-calling and the division in our country and the partisanship, but I also worry about the policies."  Among his policy concerns, Kasich cited the rising national debt, the inability to find a solution to the immigration problem, isolationism and the "rotten deal with the Saudis to look the other way" after the murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. "I'm worried about our country in the longterm. So, the question for me is, 'What do I do about this?'" he said. He added that he has to consider whether to run only if he thinks he can actually win, or if it would be worth it to run to "send a message that can disrupt the political system in this country."  Kasich said he would consider a symbolic run when asked by host George Stephanopolous if he realistically thought he could wrest the nomination from Trump, who has solid support among Republican voters. "All options are on the table for me," Kasich said, indicating he could consider a third party or bipartisan run. He had previously floated the idea of running with Colorado's Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper.
He'd have far better chances as a republican candidate rather than a 3rd party.
at this point. It seems he doesn't care if he wins. He just wants Trump and his goons out of the White House.
As horrible and Ohioan as Kasich is, I can at least appreciate that sentiment.
I can see it already Kasich runs third-party against Trump, splits the vote 49-43-8. Bernie Sanders is elected the 46th president of the United States. Overnight millions of Republicans embrace Ranked Choice Voting. Best timeline
Why is Ohioan a negative adjective in that statement? Ohio is the state where the most presidents were born.

I'm from Michigan, in that context Ohioan is a negative adjective.
Oh yeah how could I forget https://i.imgur.com/F26DJAJ.png
We still want Toledo back.
why in world you want defending Republican chances of winning rather than let Kasich run as third-party candidate (and only if he loses in Republican Primary or not).
I disagree. Republicans who don't have a favorable view of Trump still support him in majority. I think a 3rd party run would do the country good. On the other side I do not see the Democrats rallying behind Bernie even though he single handedly brought they entire party further left. I'm a huge proponent of RCV and would love to see Bernie and Kasich run separately from the DNC and RNC.
Brah we got the raw end of that deal, we got a future cesspool whose main attraction stop being relevant ages ago and you got the mineral rich upper peninsula. You can have Toledo, but give that shit to Wisconsin.
Michigander greed knows no bounds. Nothing will stop them from reclaiming the strip and keeping the UP.
We didn't even want the UP, we're still trying to get rid of it!
Honestly, Ohio shit aside, I think this guy is as good as we can get to pre-Trump Republican Party. The only thing is that I'm not sure that Party would be viable anymore...
Of the 2016 Republican candidates I honestly thought Kasich was the least crazy of the bunch, I was really suprised he never got as much traction as Cruz or Trump towards the end. Then again I was born in Ohio so I may be biased in his favor.
I'm very much biased against him, but yes I'd say he was the least insane Republican candidate of the past two elections.
he didn't gain traction because he was nowhere near the level of fervent insanity that the average GOP voter had been interested in.
I wanna see Trump get primaryed so bad and see the party drop him like a hot rock
just fucking retire, you gave us that idiot dewine and gerrymandered maps that haven't had a single turnover in 10 years, and a fucking bloody red legislature that is now going to make this state look like alabama with mini trump in office
