Since last thread was 3 years ago, would get locked as soon someone post a reply and MTGarena came out recently, i decided to make my own. (Forgive me in advance, i haven’t played Magic that much, if needed, i will fix the op)
What is Magic : The Gathering ?
It’s the first trading card game, realeased in 1993 where two players fight until one player health reach 0 (or when a player is out of card), it’s also the game that inspired Pokemon TCGs ,Yu-Gi-Oh! ,Hearthstone and Artifact (Ewwww).
Where can i try it ?
Actually, the simplest way is with the free to play Magic The Gathering Arena (Currently in open beta) which is begginer welcome and have a simple tutorial.

Recently got into this, mostly enjoying it but there are some decks that i've seen where there is little hope of stopping with my limited card selection.
You can get 3 free packs for typing in "PlayRavnica" on the stores code redeem, are there any other promotions and is it worth getting individual packs or saving 5000g for the draft gamemode?

My favorite card. I haven't tried arena yet myself, I'll need to check it out when I have more time on my hands.
So what formats is everyone playing?
I play strictly paper. I might get into Arena eventually but I don't really play Standard, which AIUI is all Arena has right now.
For constructed, I mainly play Modern. Not competitively, my best decks are tier three at best. Lots of Multiplayer Modern, too, which is a pretty different and underexplored metagame. I've tried Commander and it's just too combo-y for my tastes. Haven't tried Brawl, though, that might be more my speed.
I also draft sometimes - I've bought boxes of both Conspiracy 2 and Unstable, both awesome fun. Still have twelve packs left of Unstable I need to gather some players for.
And I've been building a Cube. Aimed for a roughly Modern power level, but not strictly Modern card set, so I've got some Commander goodies like Vedalken Humiliator. I built it around wedge-color draft archetypes - WBR is aggro, lots of attack triggers; URG is energy; BGW is graveyard abilities like scavenge, unearth and embalm; RWU is equipment-focused, with a bit of general artifact affinity; GUB is infect and poison. There's some pretty nice overlap there, like how proliferate is focused in blue and green, works well with both energy and poison counters. I'm in the midst of some more revisions right now, playtesting showed I was pushing the archetypes way too hard, drafting was too simple because the cards to pick fairly screamed at you. I mixed in a lot more generically good cards (and also more removal because OH MAN I did not have anywhere near enough removal, Murder was actually a legit pack 1 pick 1).

Big hands small hands.
I would play pure paper but I mainly play MTGO for financial reasons.

Rares with one printing spanning over a decade can suck it. For some it's to be expected though, nobody's exactly clamoring for Braid of Fire outside of a few commander decks.
I just play edh at this point, the two guys I use to play against alot made me quit modern. Knowing I play casual decks they would bring bant humans or living death against a tribal spiders.
Yeah, Modern tryhards are the worst. I went to my LGS once for Friday Night Modern, took my rather nifty but not very competitive mono-green stompy/devotion deck (seriously, Aspect of Hydra plus Khalni Hydra is ridiculous and I could get them out turn three with a good hand) and got paired against infect, a Jund midrange deck, and a nasty reanimator deck that sided into Iona and literally locked me out. That's around when I stopped playing Modern at the LGS.
I've tried EDH but everyone I know who plays it is just as much an anti-fun tryhard as the Modern Pro Tour wannabes. You get one guy trying to storm off on turn three, another guy using moat effects to keep everyone from playing, one guy running five-color-good-cards and generally trolling everyone, and then me with a borrowed black-red minotaur tribal deck. Guess who had fun that game? Nobody, actually, but I definitely didn't.
I do try to hit prereleases, though. Sealed is pretty fun. And I buy boxes to draft with once or twice a year (clique rules for drafts: one person buys all the packs, keeps all the cards, everyone else pays for the pizzas; that keeps people from drafting based on card price and not whether it works in their deck or not). Other than that, it's casual constructed and Cube.
Ultimate Masters looks like it has some pretty good reprints (phyrexian altar is nice) in it, pity about the price hike. Hopefully the price lowers a bit over its print run.
I work at a game store and we’re really struggling just to pay for it. Hoping it actually sells, we’ve still got a billion packs of masters 25 lying around.
I didn't knew if was possible to lose when you were out of card, the opponent put those cards on the game, and i realized way too late that i was about to get out of cards.

Dang, i didn't knew that MTG arena would be that fun, perfect game to make me dodge Artifact.
So my mom got me 3 boxes of cards and I have no clue on what to do with them as they have around ~800 cards each.
Here's a pic of whats on one of them

Any ideas?
Rivals of Ixalan was a recent set, just last January. I'd bet "c" refers to commons, take a look at the cards, specifically the color the set icon, middle right. Black is common, gray uncommon, gold rate and orange mythic. Commons from recent sets are rarely worth much, if you're hoping there were any epic $10,000 cards in there. But if you just want to get into the game, you can build a fun starter deck or two with just commons and basic lands, if you can find someone to play with you'll be good to go. There are actually people who only use commons for decks, it's still plenty fun.
Do the other two boxes say anything? I suspect one will be uncommons, other two might be rares or a different set. Or just take pictures of a few cards, if they're organized well we can figure it out easily.
Check yourself before you deck yourself.
Years back I got a misty rainforest in one of those bulk collections, so you never know. Chances are though that each card is worth very little, so I’d say they would be fun to just build jank decks with for casual play
I didn't know someone remade this thread, we had one on oldpunch but it kind of died.
I usually play paper, although I play online when I can too. I play mostly modern, standard, and legacy in that order (I'd like to play legacy more but events are hard to come by). I play EDH every once in a while, but mostly I stick to 60-card formats. I'm probably in the minority here as I play mostly competitively.
I should get psychic corrosion for nekusar.
How does everyone contain their physical non deck library? I started this year and I've already got 100s of cards located in a draw, needless to say I'll like to have them in something a bit better.
I use Ultra Pro boxes for my actual decks, reuse the boxes my sleeves came in for my Cube, one of those cheap cardboard boxes for my commons/uncommons, and binder pages for my rares/foils.
decks i keep in old-style flip-top deckboxes since i prefer that style to the newer 'tower' style deck boxes. i keep all playable cards + basic lands + tokens in a pair of ultra pro "dual-pro" deck boxes that hold about 500 unsleeved cards apiece, then i keep any trade stuff in a binder, and then the rest of my cards are randomly strewn about my household as if they were tossed from a helicopter
Thanks for the answer guys.

mind if i leave this here?
I was playing arena and accidentaly targeted my opponents creature with a buff spell. WHOOPS/
I did better, at the moment my opponent put a Ravenous Chupacabra on the field, i used my disperse spell on it to protect my powerful creatures, i thought it would cancel the Chupacabra spell, but turnout it didn't, so he could use the destroy spell again...

I just won a game where the opponent pulled out their nicol bolas after taking 2 extra turns in a row.
If it sounds impressive its because I took that out of context.
I just won a MTG arena game where the opponent had 58 life and I had 1. It was the first test run for my "blue-white no-creatures control" deck. I didn't use any mill*, but I got him down to 16 cards in his deck before he surrendered.
*Unless you count "settle the wreckage" as mill
I would have taken a screenshot, but I forgot how to.
Just here to let y'all know that Experimental Frenzy is the best card in the game because I get to play 4 mana to stop thinking and just topdeck and win.
Ez game. Ez life.

Yeah if it says enters the battlefield then it happens even when you bounce it. Reminds me of back in innistrad you would play this dude and immediately bounce him. Since the text boxes resolve separately the second one will trigger first and fizzle causing their creature to be exiled permanently
