Political and economic leaders celebrated the announcement as a boon for the area’s economy. Residents and advocates of affordable housing lamented that families of well-heeled technology workers could drive up housing costs and further burden congested roadways and crowded classrooms. In Northern Virginia school districts, officials hope to parlay Amazon’s proximity into more learning opportunities for students. The Amazon campus is expected to rise in National Landing, a newly branded neighborhood that includes parts of Pentagon City and Crystal City in Arlington and Potomac Yard in Alexandria. Amazon executives have said they plan over a period of years to expand their workforce to 25,000, some of whom are expected to send their children to schools throughout Northern Virginia. School leaders said they are optimistic they will be able to forge partnerships with Amazon to create a pipeline to company jobs and help students develop career skills in technology fields. An Amazon spokesman did not respond to emails seeking comment. Personally, not a fan of Amazon coming here, but when I was in highschool here I wished there was a better coding/CS program. It'd be nice to get a more technology oriented education for public school students. My district tended not to spend a lot of money on education, and tried to provide the bare minimum while wasting money on stupid shit like TVs for the cafeteria or Vending machines. The neighboring fairfax county, however, is renowned for its education. It'd be cool if kids growing up in Loudoun county end up with better learning opportunities than my school presented
Maybe they can use the corporate welfare dollars they got to do that
My school built a building almost exactly like the one in the concept drawing. If it ends up anything like it, those trees will burst into flames the first warm, sunny day in summer. It gets so warm in between the wings due to the fuck ton of windows reflecting light from both ways.
How are two buildings that are opposite each other reflect sunlight both ways, as the sun can only be in one space in the sky at once?
did you know that light can bounce more than one time
Yes, but it will have far less infrared energy the second time. Also, the sun is high in the sky the majority of the time, so it would also bounce off the ground first, absorbing more of the infrared radiation. Yeah, the sun really can heat things up, but I don't really think that building layout would work.
