they lost 300 million in a quarter thanks to tariffs
Manufacturing jobs closing down benefits the GOP as it riles up their base more.
First Ford, now GM. Sooner or later Toyota's gonna pull out too, regardless of the fact that Trump is convinced those are imported. Spoiler: They're not. Lexus cars are made in Kentucky.
I thought we were "winning" a trade war to create more jobs?
ya the old industrial hubs of america tend to swing red after the jobs disappear. Certainly did in Ohio.
And they're also planning to redo a majority of their lines to further automate them, putting even more people out of work and obfuscating our immediate view of the things we produce.
They're killing the economy in time for the next election, that's all it ever was. The republicans can't win otherwise. The economy will crash in either 2020 or 2021, and assuming the Democrats win that election, they will receive all the blame, just like with Obama.
They're also gonna be trimming a fuckton of white collar jobs, or as the email I got this morning put it they going to "begin an involuntary severance program" or "Transforming our workforce". here's to hoping i keep my job
Despite the fact that Trump's tax cuts are likely saving this company billions of dollars, they choose instead to respond to their losses from the tariffs by sacrificing the jobs of thousands of Americans instead of accepting their losses and reducing their profits.
Make better cars and it wouldn’t happen. Ford and GM here didn’t learn that lesson, and look where that got them
The county for one of the factories swung from blue to red by 30 points from 2012 to 2016. Ironically if they had voted for Clinton like they did Obama their factory wouldn't be shut down. Oops.
The closure of the plant in Canada triggered an emergency debate in parliament. All I can say is that pretty much everyone, except the Greens, are not happy about this.
They have money set aside to deal with the losses from the tarrifs but they're still going to hit them hard, I don't see the issue with them restructuring like this? It's a calculated reprojection based on various different aspects. Ms. Barra said no single factor had prompted G.M.’s cutbacks, portraying them as a prudent trimming of sails. “We are taking these actions now while the company and the economy are strong to stay in front of a fast-changing market,” she said on a conference call with analysts. Like, it sucks for the people who are going to lose their job but that was going to happen in on way or another in the future, especially with automation around the corner.
while the gop is in power though? where are these people's brains?
Being conditioned by Fox News and the current administration that everything bad that's ever happened to them is the Democrats fault
