Rockstar will launch Red Dead Online in beta form on Nov. 27, and it will initially be accessible only for owners of the Ultimate Edition of Red Dead Redemption 2. The following day, the beta will open up to those who played Red Dead Redemption 2 on its first day of release. On Thursday, Nov. 29, those who played the game in its first three days of release will get access. Then, on Friday, Nov. 30, online multiplayer will open up for all Red Dead Redemption 2 players. Red Dead Online has been described by Rockstar as “an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways.” Players will be able to explore the online experience solo or with friends, and Rockstar promises “constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.” In an announcement today, Rockstar said the world of Red Dead Online will be transformed “into a new, living online world ready to be shared by multiple players.” Players will create and customize their online characters and “tailor your abilities to suit your play style.” Players will be able to join a posse — up to eight players — and go out hunting and fishing, battle rival gangs, and fight other players in “spontaneous skirmishes and pitched set-piece battles.” Red Dead Redemption 2’s online multiplayer mode will be free and available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PS4 version of the game will have select exclusive content for Red Dead Online.
I'm ready for horse cards
At first I thought the way they're releasing it was weird, but staggering people onto the servers is probably a good call.
Disappointed I'll have to wait until the 30th but it's technically still November so I guess I'm not mad. RDR2 is such an exceptional game. Looking forward to how they butcher the Online in favor of garbage microtransactions.
Considering how unstable GTA Online was when it first launched on the PS3/360; yeah a staggered release is probably the best way to go rather than having every single owner of the game rushing the servers at once and it's not that long of a period of time it's stretched over. Saw that gambling wasn't mentioned as an activity you could do online; really interested in seeing if they include it or not.
I am super interested how the MP will work in this. I am head over heels in love with the single player and its the fist game since Witcher 3 time where I have spent more time exploring and doing side quests rather than the main story line. Hunting is probably one of my favorite things to do in the game and I hope its something that carries into MP.
Especially considering how it crashed on release for GTA V
The MP "posse" mode for Red Dead Redemption 1 was generally pretty fun, and much better than GTA V I'd say. So hopefully this will follow in its footsteps to some degree.
Can't wait to help crash the server wednesday! GTA Online turned into a grindy microtransaction mess to get the high-level stuff and I do judge it for that, but even still I put tens of hours into it and had a good time with friends. Yeah we had to make private games because of griefers and shit but I still got enjoyment out of it. Considering it's a free addition to a game I would have paid full price for just the single player, Im excited to see how it turns out.
Excited as fuck. Loved the first game's online.
Just when I go out of town for 3 weeks
honestly I can't help but think that online is just gonna be like gta v where almost everyone shoots on sight. Atleast if it is, the singleplayer is way better than GTA Vs is
If it's like the first game, there should be some kind of online bounty system placed on players who kill others. I can't remember exactly how it worked or when it went into effect; but it helped at least a bit in curtailing some of the random murdering. And presumably we won't have people flying around launching hellfire missiles down from the heavens safely in their attack jet. Right Rockstar? ...Right? Even if they completely fuck it up; I got my value from the Single Player. Probably best to play it early before the ways of monetization add up over time with updates.
"Thanks for beta testing!"
oh just wait for wright brothers planes with maxims on it or dropping dynamite, or armoured maxim wagons. I don't have doubts about it happening.
