That's kind of what I imagined Haven City to look like, although those pod vents I expected to look waay more grimy.
oh god finally I remember reading these books a decade ago and hoping that someone would shit out a movie adaptation.
ALL OF THE HYPE. These books were such a hallmark of my childhood.
well thats a name i havent heard in a long fucking time
Why are Disney making so many high-budget fantasy movies that are bound to flop? There's been like at least 4 this year.
Just in time for Holly to give another generation an unhealthy love of Shortstacks.
Most of them can be used as a tax write off.
I hope they got the casting right for Artemis and Butler.
With this, I'm guessing it's in the fingers-crossed hope that it'll take off and let them do a series.
Me? Fuck it, I'll watch it. I remember reading them with my dad as a child, like waiting for the next Harry Potter? I love stuff with a mix of sci-fi and magitech, with later entries in this having elements such as a criminal gang trying to steal faery secrets. I remember Butler with his Sig-Saur pistol. Even if the movie is a flop and even if it's a piece of shit I'm still going to enjoy at least seeing it with my old man.
INonso Anozie is definitely the right unit to play butler tbh
remember the dwarf that sharted a diamond at butler so hard it sent him flying through a wall
give me that
I love these books but seeing a real-life twelve year old supergenius on the screen will be narmy as hell.
I think the Artemis Fowl books are still popular enough that the first will make a profit, and as long as it doesn’t suck the next couple might make a buck or two
Also, Disney is trying to compete with a Warner Bros and their Harry Potter stuff, so that’s why they’ve been making a bunch
Nothing unhealthy about it
Don't get too excited. The actress playing her is fifteen.
I love the idea of an Artemis Fowl movie. I have very, very little confidence that it will be done as well as it should be.
Honestly, I REALLY hope it's just a bad trailer editing.
On the other hand it's directed by Brannah, who had shown again and again that he doesn't care about race and gender of the actors, and his changes usually warranted.
On the other hand, Domovoi Butler, an Eurasian dude with slavic name is now black for some reason (and doesn't even use his signature Sig Sauer), while Root is a woman (Judi Dench can play hardass characters, but this casting invalidates a huge story arc about how Holly is the first female elf in underground SWAT, and how she deals with it).
If casting details I found in Google are true, Foaly is played by an Indian actor, which inadvertently makes it racist as hell.
And the scene with an old fairy, who gives her Book, is any indication, they just shat all over the source material. I want for it to succeed, because from any teenager's books, Fowl was basically the last one to get any sort of recognition it truly deserves. But this looks like Eragon 2.0.
Yeah, I came here to post this. Holly always came across as a tired beat-cop, the fact that she's being played by a 15 year old is a bit off putting.
This too to a lesser degree, Butler is described as being very Eurasian looking, and that formed the basis for a lot of his aliases in the books, stereotypical Russian gangster look. Not as big a deal-breaker as the casting choice for Holly is, but still something that really threw me off. And if Root's a woman now too, I'm really not holding out any hold for this movie.
I agree, it's not a huge deal breaker, but still, third movie is gonna look awkward as hell, when we learn that this bulky black dude is called Domovoi. And on a lot of book covers he is show to look like Heavy from TF2 or like Agent 47 with slight asian hints.
I am way more concerned about Foaly and Root casting.
I remember starting the first book, but I never got through it. I either got bored or didn't understand what was happening. Always thought about trying to read it again though.
I'm sure there will be a debate surrounding this film where it will go: some people want the casting more akin to what the book describes, some say it doesn't matter, and some will say the casting is racist because it's a black guy in a servile role to a white kid.
I think I read the books when I was too old (16) because I thought they were dogshit
I was so disappointed the only way they could make the "genius" protag look smart was within completely invented fantasy scenarios. And I hated the fantasy. What's that, Leprechaun is actually derived from LEP Recon? OK. But the fairies speak their own language. So why the FUCK would they use the English word Recon?
Also I couldn't imagine the dwarf as looking like anything other than Wario but that's a personal failing and not a failing of the book series.
Eh, feels kind of weird. I know it's an adaptation and all, but the books gave a pretty specific description of Butler, and aside from being built, Anozie does not fit it at all.
artemis fowl is such a cunt.
i remember reading a bit of it when he was at a restaurant ordering spring water and telling the waiter off for asking if he wanted ice as it "defeated the point".
honestly i felt like giving that guy a slap.. so i stopped reading.
I can kind of understand the choice for Holly, after all the idea is elves are supposed to look very young by human standards. Both Holly and Opal were able to pose as human children just by disguising their ears. But yeah, a Eurasian man with a Slavic-English name and a shaved head is not exactly the role I'd expect a Nigerian actor to be cast in.
Well fuck. Trailer didn't look that good anyway, hope these kids enjoy their shit waifu.
Well it is an adaptation "based on" the books, which means they don't have to be 100% faithful. (Although I wouldn't mind if they made him bald like in the books )
what the fuck is going on with that neck
Oh god I can already imagine all the iamverysmart people who will see him as an inspiration D:
