There's no point where he doesn't get in the robot either. He has multiple opportunities to leave with nobody forcing him to stay, and he doesn't. This is the rather fargile robot where he can feel all of the pain of the damage it takes and regularly gets stabbed impaled, limbs snapped like twigs or torn off, pile drivers driven through the head, and other miscellaneous injuries. He ends up hospitalised after most fights. Who the fuck would want to pilot that robot?
