So Im trying to run a server for me an a few of my friends but I did my port forwarding but, no one can connect to it. I went to a website to test my ports and it says its closed. I Dont know what to do next.
My modem is a Xfinity Modem that has built inrouter but we are using our own router so Im port forwarding through that. I've tried googling and looking around but I don't know what exactly to do here. Hoping to get a little bit of a helping hand in hoping to get this working.
if your modem is also a router then you're probably double NATing. if your ISP allows it run the modem in bridged mode to disable modem functionality
Yeah I disabled the modems router to use my router, but I think I have to call comcast to get my admin password for my modem because they wouldn't give it to me.
im not familiar with comcast xfinity modems, so you disabled the router in the modem, but without the admin password? and the password isn't just written on the device?
nevertheless, here's a few things you could try:
configure the modem to port forward the port you need to your router's IP, then port forward your own router to your computer
plug in the cable from the modem to one of the router's LAN ports instead of the WAN port, it'll act like a network switch that way
I worded it wrong. lol
I have the modem in Bridge mode so I can use our own router. but I dont have the password for our modem because comcast wouldn't give it us. So I have to call them back to make sure they didnt ninja bridge mode it back on or something.
ah alright
if you can't circumvent the modem, you'd have to use your own router as a network switch and port forward from your modem to your device. that's probably the easiest way to do it
I just tried to call Comcast to Fac reset and did it, password didnt reset and they dont know password. Password isnt correct to whats displayed on the website. I can't.
Replace shitty comcast modem with a zoom DOCSYS 3.0 modem and use that instead. saves you 10$ a month and costs about 40$ on ebay currently.
I need a modem with a phone line as well that can support 1gb, I havent found one yet.
do you happen to have a 1gbs connection? if not then there isn't a reason to go with a 1gbs modem
