• Looking for Keyboard Recommendations

I've been using a Steelseries 7G for years now, and while I like it, a lot of the buttons are giving double inputs now so I think it's time for a replacement. I like the switches on the 7G for gaming (Cherry MX Black), but they kind of suck dick for typing. I wouldn't mind some more well-rounded switches that are better for typing without sacrificing too much in the way of gaming. I have no interest in paying extra for RGB, backlighting, macro keys, audio jacks, or any odds and ends like that. Having some way of controlling volume with the keyboard would be nice (current keyboard has a sort of fn key that can be used with the F2 and F3 to change volume on the keyboard, I really like that system) but is not mandatory. I do want a numpad. I'm looking at somewhere between 60-100$, hopefully there's some cyber monday deals lingering around still. Thanks!
I love my K70 LUX, might be out of your budget though. Corsair K70 LUX Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Red LED, Cherry MX R.. Prices on that site are in CAD so it'd be around $~120 USD for you. Unfortunately you're one day late for Cyber Monday deals Found a refurbished one on Amazon for $70 USD if you don't mind buying refurbished stuff. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D5JM51Q/ref=dp_cr_wdg_tit_rfb
I just bought this https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Mechanical-Keyboard-Aircraft-grade-Multicolor/dp/B014W1Z4S0 I'm loving it
He doesn't want macro keys or RGB, plus it waaay over his budget.
If you're looking for a good all-around keyboard I'd have to recommend the Rosewill RK-9300_BR. Make sure it's the BR version though, it has MX Browns, the normal version has MX Blues. It also has the function key for controlling volume/media playback and also allows locking out the windows key and changing the mode/brightness of the back-lighting. Last I checked it was around $50
These seem pretty well reviewed, granted you'll have to like low profile keyboards and keep in mind it's got kailh (blue or red) switches, the normal ones are not well liked but the low profile ones might be good. RGB too. It's in your price range but I don't have experience with this keyboard nor the switches so you might want to wait on what others say. https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB395L/dp/B074QM6F7X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1543354944&sr=8-3&keywords=low+profile+mechanical+keyboard
I'm really happy with my WASD Code keyboard. Until recently I even had an additional one, the one that has the most amount of keys, but unfortunately it was stolen.
I think I'm going to go with this one, going from black straight to reds would probably mean I'd be completely unable to type properly, the tactile feedback of the browns will probably be easier to transition to. Thanks for the feedback, folks.
I really like Browns, they're a very nice compromise between typing and gaming. don't present preferences like this as facts
I was going to by a HyperX Alloy FPS with browns but for $8 more on Black Friday I got a GMMK with browns and the aura keycaps. The difference between the Alloy FPS and the Alloy Elite is the keycaps and the extra features on the Elite, that's only information I can find on their differences is that. Usually they're the same price so keep that in mind as they're aimed at different markets from each other despite seeming to be the same thing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7THLBA/?tag=pcpapi-20 https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Alloy-Elite-Mechanical-HX-KB2BR1-US/dp/B0721F3XBK/ I'd recommend it, I really liked the RGB version but it only comes with speed silvers which is insanely sensitive.
I use a vortex core https://i.ytimg.com/vi/zZqqIu65Vxk/maxresdefault.jpg with a number pad But I recommend a VIBE https://i0.wp.com/mechanicalkeyboardinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Vortex-ViBE-tilted-on-grate.png?resize=1024%2C416 Vortex has media/volume controls and even programmable laters
I'm a fan of Ducky keyboards, good price for what you get. They also work well with custom keycaps. https://www.amazon.com/Ducky-Skyline-Cherry-Brown-Keyboard/dp/B07B6D3MK2
My Ducky One TKL has survived multiple drink spills (needed to give the PCB an isopropyl bath overnight) and being jokingly used as a weapon. Ducky has my biggest recommendations.
Only downside is the status LEDs are basically lasers. Had to stick a piece of tape that I sharpied over them.
Yeah, I don't understand them at all, weird oversight. The way I use a keyboard, I leave the legs unflipped and keep it fairly far away from me, so the status lights are totally blocked from my view by Ins, Home and PgUp. I gotta hunch over like a total asshole in order to even see them. But if I do that, they blind me. Still amazing and I have almost no wish to replace it (although I would definitely prefer the layout of the Vortex RACE 3)
I've had issues with my spacebar not handling the abuse my Das did, but that's user error. As for the LEDs, yeah, I lay mine flat too, but it lights my whole room up (white walls/ceilings).
I've wanted to replace my spacebar switch with an MX Clear forever but I suck at soldering. Browns don't have enough actuation force for a spacebar, imo, especially in games where I have a tendency to absolutely slam the spacebar when I want to jump.
Im using a Razer Blackwidow 2016 Ultimate Edition. Its a good keyboard, but quite pricey. I recommend it if you get it on a promotion. I got mine for the retail price alongside a free Razer Taipan.
It's just a basic office keyboard without even any fancy switches or anything, but I swear by my SK-8135. It's a really old model, though, so you can probably only find them used now, but mine's still in great shape after over ten years.
Guys, this thread is a month old and OP already picked a keyboard.
