With the GOP losing power in January, its congressional investigations into alleged Department of Justice misconduct in launching the Russia probe is expected to fizzle out. In September, a group of Trump allies in the House – led by Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York – called on Trump to declassify scores of Justice Department documents they believe undercut the start of the Russia investigation and show bias against Trump. The documents include Justice officials’ request to surveil Trump campaign adviser Carter Page and memos on DOJ official Bruce Ohr’s interactions with Christopher Steele, the author of a controversial dossier that alleged Trump ties with Russia. The president also pushed back on the notion that all the Justice Department documents should eventually be released for the sake of transparency. “Some things maybe the public shouldn’t see because they are so bad,” Trump said, making clear it wasn’t damaging to him, but to others. “Maybe it’s better that the public not see what’s been going on with this country.”

Is it me or has he been threatening to do a lot of stuff recently? I know that's his thing when he doesn't get what he wants, but it feels like he's ramping it up in the past couple of days.

Whataboutism won't save him - he's going down, one way or another. He's already taking half the GOP with him, either directly or by the mere taint of his brand. Any other rats that go down with this ship are fine by me. (And given how the GOP Congress spent literal years just trying to find dirt on Hillary, always hyping it up like they had Nuremberg-level material, and couldn't come up with anything worth filing charges over, any Republican, especially Trump, claiming to have dirt on Democrats should be presumed lying until proven otherwise. Not saying all Democrats are 100% clean, just that Republicans claiming to have evidence otherwise doesn't count as evidence, the way a Democrat politician or a reputable reported claiming to have evidence would.)

It's really disgusting how this shit is just seen as completely normal and acceptable now by the fucking US president. This should be setting off so many red flags yet he'll yet again walk away unscathed.

I'm pretty sure Kelly or Mattis would probably knock the dentures out of his mouth before they would let him declassify anything. I think it goes without saying he has no clue about the actual gravity of declassifying information, and there's a lot of folks who would make sure something so stupid doesn't happen. Still, its a terrifying possibility that he might be able to get it through. Such wanton disregard to security and secrecy should be grounds for impeachment in of itself.

Something tells me that when the day comes when Trump gets indicted, he's not going to come quietly or anything like that. Police will have to show up to where he is and he's going to try to run and escape, and then get a tazer in the back for it and end up getting dragged into a squad car literally kicking and screaming.

He'll run away to Russia as soon as it looks like he'll be fully indicted.

The Secret Service have an order to detain him for his own safety if he tries to flee.

And sadly his supporters will see nothing wrong with that. They'll probably try to whatabout the subject with Edward Snowden which is totally comparable.

It's just the Secret Service's job. They don't let POTUS out of their sight ever and they'd determine that detaining him for his safety would be the thing to do if he tries to flee.

Just imagine what Republicans would say if Obama had threatened something like this because Congress wouldn't stop investigating Benghazi, or because Republicans were fucking with him attempting to pass the ACA. Articles of impeachment would hit the table faster than the Washington Press could report the story.
