The parent and the airline are both at fault. The mum for giving her daughter a stupid name and the airline for mocking it.

Not only is it "unique", it's the worst type of "unique" - simultaneously lazy and inherently humorous.
She can't even be clever and come up with a "unique" name that's actually special, she chose a joke based on the alphabet.
When she named her kid, she didn't give a single shit about her. She didn't care about what the kid would go through. She didn't think of a name that the kid could be proud of. She didn't think of the kid's school life or professional life. She just thought "I can brag about having a kid with a SPECIAL name." But then she didn't even put in effort to make a name that's actually special, because that would mean giving the kid a name that's actually special, and in turn mean she meant putting in any effort for the kid. She looked around the room, saw an alphabet book, and picked the first 5 letters.
Maybe she's grown to actually care for her child in the meantime. That's entirely possible.
But, given some of the parenting I've seen?
She probably took offense at the name mocking as an insult against her and her special naming abilities, rather than out of concern for her child.
You know what, no, I guarantee you that's what she took offense at.

Abcde isn't that uncommon of a name. Sure it is rare, but she isn't the first.
