https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110042/6f7d338e-8740-4acc-a21f-a1f2bee4da24/image.png Artifact is a card game by valve created by the magic the gathering guy. In it you essentially play 3 card games at once. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110042/d78bc9b2-4068-4000-af38-3f5423545a72/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110042/380387a0-8dd3-4d51-ab1e-b5f79cc3f056/image.png the goal is to destroy an enemy tower on two of the 3 boards or a tower and its energy core on just one board. 1 game takes 20-40 minutes to play. The game uses a timer like in speed chess, take too long to think during your turns and it's instant game over for you. the game costs $20 to purchase but it includes $20 worth of random card packs on top of the traditional starter decks that you expect when you start playing a TCG-like game. unlike Hearthstone, Gwent, etc you can sell and buy specific cards with the most powerful card of all, your credit card har har. This game does not support steam trading, only marketplace. gonna need confirmation on this one, but I think you can destroy worthless spare cards in exchange for access to artifact's equivalent of the Hearthstone Arena. In Artifact the Hearthstone Arena-like game mode is called Keeper's Draft. there is also a game mode called phantom draft that is free to enter, where you can draft cards and play them without reward. going back to the hearthstone analogies this is like playing Arena for free but you don't win anything for playing well. after 5 wins your phantom draft deck is destroyed and you have to start over. This is the only way to play new cards without paying any real-world money. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ5XfCAB348 Artifact on Steam Official website How To Play Artifact sorry if I get any info incorrect (I probably did), as the official artifact website is hilariously sparse on explaining what the heck this game is.
I'm torn because I loved Hearthstone and want a new CCG to play but Artifact just looks downright scummy.
Feedback I've been hearing is its a good card game that is ruined by Monetization currently. Surprising nobody.
Disappointed you can't buy little hats for the cards.
This quote is perfectly match with the Todd avatar.
Vulva arsenounces newt disaparpment - Shartifart (a Shota 2 fart game) Remember when Artifact was announced and some people here were optimistic Valve was going to be continuing with the CS:GO/TF2/DOTA 2 monetization model and turn the digital card game industry on its head with the most profitable and simultaneously most affordable title on the market? Good times.
So far nothing change in game's store page reviews as its now 65% as for now.
Have you heard of Magic Arena?
The most OP card in the game
Magic is probably too complex for me. I really liked Hearthstone's level of complexity. Call me a casual or whatever.
I don't think Magic Arena has any of the more complex cards. With MtG in general, I'd say outside of weird cornercases the game is simple enough for 10 years olds to play.
All the hate on this forum, and on the internet (especially Steam Reviews) is mostly unwarranted and misleading at best. Yeah, you need to pay to get rewards, but you don't have to pay a dime besides game itself. MMR and ranked ladder will be added too. Most cards are cheap, you can get good deck for Constructed Draft in range of 5-10$, and any expensive cards are not needed at all, since game is so complicated, you can play around most "strats" "op" cards allow. I never felt like anyone won by having better cards, but because I made a mistake(s). My last 2 games were so intense, and close, this game feels soo good. Gameplay is great.
Oh what the fuck, you are a brave soul for attempting this thread. Constructed and market is whack af right now. I don't see myself building an Axe/Kanna/Drow deck any time soon until next expan probably. I'm that stingy. I hate this timeline. Damn it Valve I had faith.
I also agree that market is not in the best spot right now, just because game barely launched. I bet in a month we will have some extra way to earn cards just because of the "outrage" and prices will go down on most wanted cards when meta will settle.
Can we setup like a discord/steam group (steam better maybe sinds its intergrated in artifact) to setup tournaments and shit?
I think they made a mistake, or at least should be their priority right now, is not reintroducing spectator mode into the client. I had some close ass butt-clenching games and I would like to know my opponent's hand during the final turn. You know what, features everyone would appreciate as soon as possible would be: -Spectator mode -Social features, such as communications post-game. -Open tournaments -Ladder system that satisfies both sides of the argument (no grind vs no incentive) Dang I'm still slightly shaken from my last game. I browse this forum and the subreddit to cool off.
i played a couple of games as a friend gifted it to me the gameplay mechanics are pretty fun, the card design seems a bit boring at the moment, the animations and interface is pretty great, but i absolutely despise the economy i think there's a lot of stuff that could be done here, but not sure how long it's got given it has 60k max players on release day
People are complaining that you have to purchase card packs, but isn't that kinda in the same vein as traditional trading card games? Where's the disconnect?
The game isn't free.
Neither are booster packs for traditional card games. I haven't played artifact but don't you get starter cards?
there are no quests or tasks that earn card-buying currency such as hearthstone gold
Hearthstone is sort of okay because the base game is free. Artifact's base game is $20 and then you still are forced to pay more real money for cards.
You can turn them into Tickets or Steam bucks
I just want to add that the initial $20 gives 2 starter decks (worth at least a dollar), 10 packs ($20) and 5 tickets ($5). It is an odd gatekeep that pisses people off, but factually you don't pay $20 exclusively for access. You can break down cards into tickets in which you can participate in Expert Play to earn packs. It is a bit indirect. or you can just sell them and buy other cards
I know I'm 2 days late, but from what I've heard Artifact is for even more hardcore players than Magic Arena.
So this game has been out only a couple days, right? It's not even in the Steam top 10 anymore.
I'm sort of wondering just how Artifact is doing compared to other digital card games and Valve's expectations
Keepers draft is the best way to make steambux just keep holding out until you get an Axe or pick cards thats more than like 3 dollars combined and you come out with a profit with 5 wins https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/225583/dda28cff-e5f8-4f8d-a158-be45e5f0ce7b/image.png
The likelihood of someone winning 3+, let alone a perfect run, is substantially lower when they exclusively rare draft. Valve should've (or would've, idk I'm not them) seen it coming when they picked this business model. However, 30k is by all means not awful, just not wildly successful.
Let's share our unpopular opinion of cards. I think splash Bristleback is overrated. His include card is mediocre and without the ability to direct his combat arrows he sits in lanes hitting creeps. Sure he still scares opponents when deploying into his lane, but many other Reds do the same yet bring at least some utility into the game.
