Where's the "oh fuck" rating? This is pretty worrying indeed. I still find it hard to believe that Putin is crazy enough to invade, but it's really hard to say. The problem is that people are inherently more rattled by sudden, precipitous events of chaos, whereas Putin slowly and methodically takes territory so that people don't react as vociferously. I mean, Hitler seized the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia first, invading the country proper later. This is why I'd find it more likely that Putin would try and annex regions like Donetsk that are already receptive to Russia than try a full-scale invasion.
So that trump can backstab us and take over entire Europe? Fucking imagine.
I suspect they're going to use the martial law period to claim that ethnic russians in the Ukraine are being oppressed. It's an excuse that let them get away with Crimea with nought but a slap on the wrist, so it clearly works.
Erm, no... I think that would be a terrible idea and extremely provocative. Putin only ever goes for tiny little goals, and I'm concerned that even one other European army being at the border could trigger a cascading set of events that culminate in a nuclear exchange. It's important to realise how fickle decisions from any nuclear-armed nation can now end all human life as we know it. This is arguably most of the reason for the longest period of relative peace in human history, but it's also why we need to be extremely cautious when deploying military divisions.
Man it sure would be an awful tragedy for russia if Ukraine just so happened to come across a few battalions of non-monkey variant M1 Abrams as well as training instructors who just so happened to get lost in Ukraine and also just so happened to be sympathetic to Ukraine.
PORTUGAL SHALL RISE AGAIN CARALHO
What's a non-monkey variant? I'm a bit lost.
Generally speaking they call the earlier M1A1's or ones that are stripped down of all the fancy shit like ERA "the monkey variants".
Abrams with less advanced/effective armour packages
It comes from this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Export_variants_of_Soviet_military_equipment
extremely worrying I hope German mediation will solve this conflict.
Breaking news: World leaders condemn Russia as unmarked T-90 tanks roll into Ukraine. Foreign Minister Lavrov calls the action a 'provocation'. Few days later... Breaking news: Russian MOD claims the tanks are not Russian. Putin: "Wasn't me. Probably some Ukranian militia fed up with their corrupt government." Trump: "I talked to Putin, who is a tremendous guy. Tremendous. He told me those tanks were not his. I have no reason to think otherwise, if I had, I would - Believe me. Believe me."
If that happens the pee tapes get released. But, I do hope Trump does something about it, even if it means leaking whatever shit Putin has on him.
Pretty much. They've digested Crimea, now to move on to some other "oppressed" Russian speakers.
Conspiracy time: what if Putin is watching the Mueller investigation carefully so that he strikes while the US is paralyzed with internal affairs to effectively mobilize (since we have troops at the Mexico border instead of the Ukrainian border), and Trump fights Congress hard to remobilize. Alternatively, Trump is working with Putin to create a small scale conflict to ensure Trump remains in power, because now he's a "wartime president". In either case, I don't think it's a coincidence that Putin is mobilizing against Ukraine while we're potentially at the end of Trump's Russia investigation.
What's the bet the Republicans cry "the libs are trying to destabilise the nation during a war!"?
I thought those were national guard?
The timing definetely feels off. Everybody should make sure that Mueller concludes his investigation and doesn't get involved in some "accident".
The Germans don't give a shit about the Ukraine, they care more about Russian gas
The National Guard was already at the border because it's their job. Trump placed an additional couple thousand soldiers from the army.
And risking of developing into WW3 in years away and give Russian nationalists justification? No thanks.
the EU would only move into the Ukraine as a defensive measure. i believe russia mobilizing its military on the Ukrainian border is a pretty fucking clear act of aggression that requires defensive measures put in place
GRU assassin pushes open the door to Mueller's office. "Mr. Mueller? Still working? Should take a break sometime, I brought some whiskey-" The office seems empty. The assassin is confused. But the special investigator merely remembered his training. Mueller drops down from the ceiling. Bones break. The poison bottle falls and shatters. The assassin is in a crumpled heap on the floor, whimpering in pain, Mueller's knee pressing him against the tiles. One arm is dislocated, one leg broken. The assassin's accent slips and he curses in russian. Mueller's gun pushes into the back of his head. "That disguise was pretty good. You guys keep getting smarter", Mueller grunts while bringing out his taser with his free hand, "but never smart enough for me."
seems like they intend to annex the entire eastern ukraine to build a land border between russia and crimea
Not stopping the dominoes falling at the start didn't work last time a militant nation in Europe tried taking it all over. If Putin only ever goes for "tiny little goals", they ought to be stopped at the start, else they will to begin to accumulate.

The tanks are 740 minutes away from Kiev
That's in the realm of "if you hand whiskey to a beggar, will he take a sip?" probability
