Nissan says that the vehicle is equipped with “advanced battery technology and drivetrain components from the Nissan LEAF.”
They modified the powertrain to work with dual motors, which is not available on the consumer version of the LEAF.
According to the company, the two electric motors produce 240 kilowatts combined (120 kW each) and 640 Nm of instant torque to the wheels. That’s more than double the maximum power and the torque output of the previous LEAF NISMO RC, which was introduced in 2011 and based on the first generation LEAF.
Nissan writes about the car:
“A new all-wheel-drive system gives the LEAF NISMO RC its outstanding cornering prowess. Power is managed independently to each axle, instantly supplying torque to the tire with the most grip to let the car maneuver quickly and efficiently around the track. Similar to the previous model, chassis weight balance has been optimized by the midship location of the battery pack, with the electric motors and inverters ideally placed over the front and rear tires.”
The Japanese automaker made the LEAF NISMO RC with lightweight components and “a full carbon-fiber racing monocoque structure, allowing it to tip the scales at just 1,220 kilograms.”
...
The company says that the power-to-weight ratio results in “an impressive performance of zero to 100 kph in just 3.4 seconds – 50% quicker than the previous model.”

Damn, looks pretty good imo
I dunno, they didn't seem terribly proud of the styling judging by the editing. Head on looks pretty cool, but i feel like the side profile is gonna look wonky.
Genuinely believed it was an RC toy car before I read the specs.
Looks sick to me, I love the look of widened hatchbacks for some reason.
I'm interested in the battery tech at play to deliver 240Kw
That's pretty low tbh. A Tesla Model S P100D battery pack can output 575kW or so.
Dear Nissan,
Release this to customers instead of taking the regular Leaf, painting a red stripe on it and calling it a Nismo, and I promise I'll find a way to sell enough kidneys to buy it on day one. I may even forgive you for ever creating the Juke.
Thanks in advance.
Well, goodbye Tesla.
But really, this looks cool af. I've been waiting for the time when an automaker would do a crazy electric car, like this or the ZOE eSport concept.
As EVs progress into being mainstream to the point of being viable, they must aswell become ordinary and common looking cars, which was the problem with the Leaf of old, and the Peugeot/Mitsubishi aberration, and a few others even today. The ZOE looks much better, but if it were a little wider and had a lower roof and probably not an artsy """futuristic""" interior, it would be near perfect, excluding the fact that it doesn't deliver that much power.
Tesla changed that a fair bit, making stuff that rivals german sedans, but still doing weird design choices like a shitty futuristic looking dash with nothing on it, and not really reaching the quality of the germans but still being pretty close to it.
The only thing missing, is stuff like this. Yeah yeah, its a shame there isn't any more engine/exhaust noise, and fuck right off with emulated sound through speakers (THE most useless, gimmicky and posery thing to have been made in the auto industry, see: the new Clio Sport and cringe at the option of being able to amuse yourself over passing a GTR's noise through the speakers), but at least enthusiasts can still have something fun.
Probably means the tech to allow batteries to discharge that much energy in such a relatively short time.
Front looks great, the ass end...not so much.
I wonder how it would compare to the Model 3 on the track.

This is as much a Leaf as the Toyota NASCAR Car is a Camry.
I expect the motors might be the same. The new Leaf has 120 kW motors limited to 110kW.
Would probably be obliterated, this is a track only car, the model 3 isn't.
What I don't get is calling it a race car, since it clearly doesn't race in any series.
"The Japanese automaker made the LEAF NISMO RC with lightweight components and “a full carbon-fiber racing monocoque structure, allowing it to tip the scales at just 1,220 kilograms."
It would probably put the Model 3 to shame. By racing standards, even just enthusiast class, the Model 3 is slow. This Nismo Leaf is actually a racecar and probably performs quite well, especially with that weight.
Excellent, now motorsports is going to sound even more boring.
That's not a real concern.
