What is it with UK news sites and having photos of the people involved just standing there looking at the camera...
I doubt there is a terrorist tickbox on the form.
that’s nothing. Here they will have people literally bark rabidly while on camera
i recently filled out an esta and these are the eligibility questions

however when my girlfriend accidentally ticked one of these the site came up with warnings saying "bro are u fucking sure about that??" so i'm unsure how you'd accidentally go through with it.
maybe i'm paranoid but it seems pretty reasonable that you should check, double check and fuckin triple check everything on any sort of government form
Please tell me you aren't joking
Pretty sure there is. I've also heard there's one question asking if you're planing on doing an act of terror in the country.
I've filled out the ESTA form and there basically is such a checkbox

Seems the site was crashing and being unreliable as fuck when the guy was doing it, so yeah it wouldn't surprise me.
It's so weird how open airports are about these things. I remember going to the USA when I was a lot younger and just being completely terrified of the atmosphere in the airport. Especially being like 14 and seeing questions like "are you a drug smuggler?" "are you a terrorist?" and "are you planning on being a terrorist?" put in such plain words, whilst on your way to a fun family holiday. With the context of how useful the TSA actually are, it feels even more uncomfortable.
Like what do they hope to achieve by asking "ARE YOU A TERRORIST?!" on these forms other than scaring innocent people? Is scaring innocent people the point? If so, why would they want to do that?
From what I've understood, it's not that they expect anyone to answer "Yeah, I'm a terrorist planning to bomb stuff".
It's so that if you actually do something, they can easier hold you accountable for false testimony until the full investigation is completed.
I mean, in the event you do commit a terrorist attack and they don't have enough to put you under arrest for it, then they certainly don't have enough on you to arrest you for false testimony.
Since, you know, they need to provide evidence that you carried out an attack either way.
That sounds like a pretty pointless way of going about things though. Surely if you've done some amount of terrorism then lying on a form is probably not exactly a big deal in comparison. And if it is the case that you can nab people easier if they filled a form in saying they totally won't be a terrorist, then that should probably change.
That's precisely the point. Scared people are easy to control, and remember, our country runs on the terrorism-military-industrial complex, and support for that complex here at home comes from plain old fear.
airport security in the us is all about scaring people, getting off the flight in america the first thing i saw was police with guns looking suspiciously at me, then i go to the border control section where the guy asks questions in an intimidating voice after ripping my passport out of my hand. the whole experience is supposed to be daunting and intimating
Non conspiracy theory tier answer: it makes revoking your visa a much simpler legal process if it gets found out later that you engaged in terrorism, human trafficking etc. in your home country.
Because then you lied on your ESTA form, therefore you obtained your visa by fraud, thefore gtfo immediately.
I only really alluded to it rather than outright saying it because I've often been criticised as a conspiracy theorist for saying that kind of thing.
It's frustrating that despite what you're both saying, this shitty outlook is being mindlessly copied by the UK and Europe now. It's not close to as bad, but we've been slowly moving that way for as long as I can remember. The mad thing is that the political effect of it has quite obviously passed over too. I guess I'm an outlier, but it definitely has the opposite effect on me. It's just mad depressing how security, media and even the way we frame television is used to basically engineer all sorts of consent for all sorts of things, that effectively amount to certain groups wanting money and/or the political power that comes from it. I can't imagine how unquantifiable the effect stuff like this has had on people's lives.
I don't know, am I going crazy? It seems completely transparent to me.
behold the first person ever banned due to the question
Angry people in local newspapers. Look it up, it's a genre of photojournalism
It's the 21st century version of "Are you 18 years old?"
Lmao that sounds like porn sites asking if you're legal of age.
Best part is "are you a terrorist?" "Are you probably involved in 9/11?" To which people holding several bombs can just say no lol
When you apply for citizenship, it asks you specific questions about if you've joined a gang, terrorist group, or political faction hellbent on committing genocide. It asks you if you were a member of the Nazi party of Germany before 1940-something, or had collaborated with the Nazis during that time, or if you were in the SS and worked in a death camp. It asks if you had "ever oppressed someone".
It asks if you're a communist, a terrorist, or a member of any other "totalitarian organization". It asks if you've ever joined "a group". It asks if you are royalty. It asks if you are mentally incompetant.
It asks if you've ever tried to overthrow a government, or were involved in:
Genocide
Killing
Torture
Hurting someone, on purpose
Rape
Preventing someone from practicing their religion
It asks if you were in a foreign military, militia, guerilla group, or insurgent organization
It asks if you were in prison, in a labor camp, or in a concentration camp
It asks if you've sold guns
It asks if you've ever recruited a child soldier
It asks if you're a drunk, prostitute, drug dealer, polygamist, immigration fraud, gambler, human trafficker, absent father, or welfare queen
Finally, it asks if you are willing to die for the constitution
well there is and this has happened before many times
The Queen banned showing emotion in 1965 and even saying 'hello' to a stranger on the street is punishable by death.
Check out the forms for getting a US security clearance. They straight up ask if you've ever engaged in any acts of terrorism, and if yes, ask you to explain.
Not to continue beating a dead horse here, but yeah there actually is, I filled forms out when I moved here, etc, etc. There's plenty of questions that are both essentially and almost literally that.
Why is it that terrorist is a question on the form?
I feel like.. are you a terrorist is just a strange question.
if it really does ask if you're ready to die for the constitution that's just the cherry on top of this hypocritical odd cake lmao
I can understand all the other as an utter retards attempt at weeding out bad people. but why the fuck would any tourist ever want to die for the constitution?
