Welcome to the Retro PC Games Megathread!
DISCORD LINK: https://discord.gg/9KAtWEu
Want to discuss retro shooters old and new? Need a place to rant about their modern sequels? Got stuck hunting for that one missing keycard?
Or have you created a mod for Doom, Duke, Quake etc. and are searching for a place to show it off? Then you have come to the right place!
This is Facepunch's central hub for discussion of PC games of the pixelized 90s to early 2000s era, (as well as their modern sequels, if appropriate). The primary focus is on shooters like Doom, but other titles are also welcome of course. Since it's pretty slow-moving on its own, having a single thread for each separate franchise or game would likely result in a lot of very inactive threads, hence we bundle most of it up here. We also talk about the modern iterations of these old games too from time to time.
I expanded the topic of the thread to encompass retro PC Games in general (like Bio Menace, Duke Nukem 2, Commander Keen etc.) as these don't really have a place on the forum yet, but are often talked about by people that are interested in retro FPS. So if something like an old Beta of an Apogee platformer is released, then it's fine to post that here too. Just make sure that the topic you want to post about doesn't have its own dedicated thread already. Half-Life for instance, while being a retro PC game, already has its own thread in this subforum.
You are of course welcome and encouraged to promote interesting mods and show off your own creations here!
Here's a starter for playing Doom on modern systems (courtesy of 4Chan's /vr/ thread):

It's shaking
I ain't afraid of no Quake.
Blood is best
Speaking of Blood did anything happen with Nightdive Studios yet? I think they teased something back in October but I wasn't sure if anything happened since.
Dont forget the UT banner
there's some new neat banners in the sa thread like heretic/hexen, blood, ut, shadow warrior, etc.
They removed their FB banner with the blood drip since then. Doesn't seem like anything came off of it, par for the course really when it comes to teases regarding Blood.
It's back just for you.
Well "new", as in "pretty old" actually, the thread has been posted in 2011. I didn't want to clutter the OP, and thus picked some that are representative of the big games/engines.

Shit, I still need to sit down and play through Episode 2.
I'm split between my first playthough of BloodGDX and finishing Overload, Amid evil needs to hurry up and get done alredy.
Sooo....
The PTS update for Quake Champs has CTF
Blood is finally getting a proper remaster.
Blood set to return in remaster of gory ’90s shooter
The usual suspects (Kaiser, Quasar, Edward850 of the Doom community) are working on it, who did the Turok and Strife ports previously.
They are blessed by the Atari suits too it seems, which makes it likely that they got access to the actual source code rather than having to reverse-engineer things.
The polygon article is pretty bad, this one here has more details: https://gematsu.com/2018/12/horror-first-person-shooter-blood-remaster-announced-for-pc
Can't say I'm too pleased that Atari has to be attached to it but I'll take what we can get I guess.
So I asked the devs what the modding situation will be for the Blood Remaster. The response:
All the original data formats are intact, so the art files, inis, RFFs and maps are still used exactly as they were. In addition, the AI and weapon behaviour are in angelscript now.
This means that maps will still be created through the original Build tools (mapedit, artedit, etc.) while the weapon and enemy behavior are now also modular.
Why the hell won't they give him them access to the source code?
