I have kind of a Frankenstein setup going on (old analog with new digital and a handful of conversions in between) So I have S/PDIF to component converter headed straight from my tower, to the converter, to my receiver. Works like a champ. PC display is attached to my monitor (a tv) through a DVI >HDMI cable. Works like a champ. This setup has proven great for over two years for me. Now the weird part....Also attached to this TV is my PS4, which hadn't seen much use before RDR2. Now that I have that, I've been using it more. The way that's set up, is HDMI > TV, TV speakers off, output via component to receiver. Now here's where shit gets weird. If I have the DVI > HDMI from the tower connected and the TV component out connected, I get a LOUD feedback that gets completely ignored by the volume knob on the receiver. Changing inputs does nothing. I'm thinking it's just because it's an older receiver, and not designed to handle a setup like this. I'm thinking that maybe a HDMI friendly receiver would probably eliminate this problem. Normal computer use means the component from the TV stays disconnected. This is all just so I can get stereo sound from the receiver for both the computer, and the PS4. I just can't figure out what it is. It's not really bothering me at all, I'm more curious than anything. Converter is a PROZOR Digital to Analog Converter Receiver is a Harman/Kardon AVR 20II Any thoughts? My interm solution has just been to pull the HDMI whenever I want to use the PS4, but I feel like removing/replacing the HDMI enough will eventually damage it.
