CStore - The Other Garry's Mod (and other games!) Marketplace
21 replies, posted
CStore is a addon marketplace in the works, developed by Crident. We're aiming to launch in December, and we'll have some more detailed blog posts out before then, at which point I'll respectively release more information here.
What is CStore?
Crident Store, is a marketplace for scripts, including but not limited to gmod, and other source games.
We're not aiming to make money from content creators, or consumers - it's possible we'll have a $0.1 fee per transaction, but this is simply a limitation by PayPal.
We will be handling VAT for content creators just like gmodstore, so people are already familiar with the processes we'll be using
How we're going to do it?
Infrastructure
It'll be running on our overkill web 2 infrastructure maintained and already required for other crident operations. This not only improves the reliability and scalability of our site from day one, it cuts out the main cost of running a store like this.
Funding
A lot of people get concerned about the lack of a commission, because they don't understand how we're going to make money, and it's worth stressing - this isn't designed to make money. Game hosting is more popular on highly modded games, and where there are highly modded game servers, there are marketplaces selling scripts. It only makes sense that we try to foster an environment that benefits game server hosting - where we make our actual money.
We're in a better position to make money from the types of people who buy scripts, in a different way to the marketplace itself. The game hosting is our money-making business.
Consumers
We already have access to the types of demographics that run servers and buy addons, because our company has been targeting them for years effectively. So far we've got a lot of consumer interest in our marketplace, and a few hundred people in our Discord, mostly being consumers within the few days the Discord has been open.
Team
So far our team is consisting of 4 key people.
Luna is leading development operations and making most management decisions
Nookyava is leading community management, leveraging his experience at gmodstore, and advising management decisions
Trixter is managing back end infrastructure (web 2)
Drizzy - I'm investing the resources needed to make this thing happen, and managing the project on a mostly macro-scale. I'm looking to further withdraw my access to cstore, and become more of an advisor to address some peoples concerns about my involvement.
So combining what I've said so far, I think we have the ability to provide the platform from a financial perspective, a revenue generating perspective, and I think we have the right people to make it happen.
Right now...
Right now the main point of this thread is to get any feedback from people, hear any concerns, and also what questions people want answered. So feel free to ask away, and if you're interested feel free to click the button below.

I somewhere heard of that before.
Would be awesome if this is going to get online soon, I always wanted an alternative!
Is there any in-house DRM planned? Having my gmodstore shit just uploaded to codefodder is annoying
It's something we're deffo interested in, but not able to do on launch, we don't want to try and do too much too fast.
You'll be able to list the DRM in your scripts on the info panel for your scripts, though.
Neato.
What is your policy on accepting things onto the store? Does it have to be super high quality? or what?
I would really need you to define "super high quality", as that can be subjective from person to person. We're going to make sure what people claim about their scripts is true, and try our best to avoid any scripts containing backdoors, exploits, or otherwise troublesome code, but fundamentally, if it works as claimed, it's the consumers choice what they buy.
We have 3 of our featured creators selected. Thanks to our third featured creator GlorifiedPig - we're looking forward to work with all of them to launch cstore.
The scripts posted by featured creators pre-launch will be 25% off for the first week of cstore, while we test out our payment systems etc. During this period, no new script requests will be approved, and these authors will get exclusive listing rights:
Danny: DConfig
Billy: BWhitelist, BLogs, (?BKeycard scanner?)
Glorified: GlorifiedMap (?Don't Blink?)
We're going to select another 5 for a total of 8. We currently have 9 other script developers we're confirming - and we'll announce as they're selected. After this period, the creators will remain featured. (more on this later)
Thanks for the continued support, we're pretty excited for cstore
Looking forward to this.
I want to just say for the record, we're aiming to launch in December, with an internal goal of the 16th. We've pushed the internal date back a few days to avoid rushing things, but this is an internal goal so it could change.
We're confident we can get the store out in December & thanks for the continued support while we get this thing going - its really motivated us to make sure we get this right <3
The Commander is our fourth featured content creator working with us to launch CStore. He'll be joining Billy, Danny & Glorified Pig, releasing the following addons:
Danny:
DConfig, DRadio, DWeapons, DInventory, Dans Shelves
Billy:
BWhitelist, BLogs, BKeycard scanner (possib more?)
Glorified:
GlorifiedMap, Don't Blink, Armoury & Banking system
Commander:
Underdone RPG, Customizable Zone Areas
That totals ~12 addons & 1 gamemode so far. We're announcing the other 4 creators during the next following days

This sounds great, looking forward for launch.
Been looking forward to it for a few months now, can't wait for release.
This seems like you have tried to discreetly promote your Server Host company.
I mean it could be wrong but all I see so far is:
You sell game/dedicated servers
You pride yourselves on your network infrastructure in place on your server company
Again, you really like your server companies infrastructure
haven't you guys been shrouded in shade ever since crident's inception?
that's a legitimate question to anyone who pays more attention than me, i don't keep up with the good ol' gmod community.
I don't know what makes you think we're trying to be discreet - it's a key point of the thread; to show that the game hosting company is going to be funding the marketplace, and in turn no commissions.
The reason I speak to this so much is because it's been the largest concern we've heard during the lead up to this point. Most people think there is some catch when you tell them something is free, and I want that transparent.
I'm not sure what you mean by that.
We've got hundreds of positive reviews, served thousands of customers, with cstore specifically we're being supported by some of the most popular authors on gmodstore. A lot of people spread misinformation about Crident because they don't like me, and various things I've done - that might be what gives you that idea. Some people have valid points, about mistakes I've made, but no mistake I've made has actually resulted in material harm to anyone, ever.
The reality is - we're one of the top game hosts for gmod, and the people who spend money with us, love us. The only people who generally have a big issue with Crident have never used the company.
Right - because a competitor wanting to provide a service AND advertise other offers that they provide is wrong. Well better tell my work to stop allowing shipping through the air, or sea! Cause they can only offer Land Transport without being seen as "promoting this service".
Like what? I'd expect some effort put into a rebuttal.
I mean, yeah, I can sorta see the point since this is a Garry's Mod forum so perhaps only this company's Garry's Mod services should be talked about. I really don´t mind personally, though.
Who exactly cares if they are trying to advertise their server host company? People need to make money somehow, you can't just give everything for free. They are already offering a 0% commission, and I'd take that with advertising any day over a larger commission. Plus, competition improves on both sides, so you, being a consumer or developer, should not be angry about this.
Happy to announce Brickwall and Kanalumaddela as our fifth and sixth featured creators, respectively.
Brickwall will be releasing the following scripts:

https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/5614
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/5925
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/5516

+ maybe one other script that he has in the making
Kana will be releasing the following script:
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/5000
This brings the total amount of addons the store should be launching with to 19, and one gamemode. All the scripts will be 25% off during the first week.
Excited to announce our 7th featured content creator: Owain, who will be posting the following scripts on cstore 25% off week:
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/5417
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/3936
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/5165
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/4197
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/4102
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/4281
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/4514
https://www.gmodstore.com/market/view/5342
Beast is our final featured content creator, and he'll be posting coin flips with 25% off for our launch week. This means during our 25% launch week off there will be ~30 scripts on the site.
After the one week period is over, we'll start accepting script submissions. You will be able to submit your scripts during the launch week, though!
Once again you can join our Discord on https://crident.store
It's not that you can't hope for some extra sales, it's that the advertising is too painful and in your face. Honestly, as the 'community manager', I think you should take the legitimate criticism rather than dismissing it entirely. And, I think your response is a little indicative of the kind of operation this will be.
On another note, what does the Crident store offer that gmodstore doesn't? Sounds like it'll just be another clone filled with the same DRM-riddled, mediocre code.
