President Trump took aim at Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) on Saturday after the Senate Intelligence Committee member told MSNBC that a sentencing memo filed by federal
prosecutors on Friday implicated the president in directing illegal payments to women who claimed they had affairs with him.
In a pair of tweets, Trump mocked Blumenthal for past statements the senator has made referring to his military service, which the president has frequently accused the senator of
inflating
"Watched Da Nang Dick Blumenthal on television spewing facts almost as accurate as his bravery in Vietnam (which he never saw)," Trump wrote Saturday afternoon.
"As the bullets whizzed by Da Nang Dicks head, as he was saving soldiers left and right, he then woke up from his dream screaming that HE LIED," the president continued. "Next time
I go to Vietnam I will ask 'the Dick' to travel with me!"
There's no evidence that the Connecticut senator has ever claimed to have served in combat in Vietnam, though the senator has been criticized for comments he made describing his
service in the Marine Corps Reserves, which occurred during the Vietnam War era but was based in the U.S.
The president's attacks came hours after Blumenthal spoke to MSNBC's Chris Matthews, telling the host that former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's payments to Stormy Daniels and
Karen McDougal, two women who claim to have had affairs with the president, during the campaign at the direction of Trump amounted to illegal campaign contributions.
captain private general bonespurs reporting for deferment.
Blumenthal and his son were both in the Marine reserves. Can they make it illegal for the Commander in Chief to shit on the military.
Remember when saluting with a coffee cup in your hand was an affront to our armed forces and made you literally Satan? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
until those in the armed forces and retired from the service stop supporting his bullshit he'll keep it up
Lmao a fucking actual draft dodger is saying this shit
Cadet bone spurs at it again, eh?
I wish this came earlier in his presidency or maybe even his campaign so I could laugh at it instead of groan
That's rich coming from a certified coward.
I hope that Republicans realize that Trump was a failed experiment
Cue Republicans asking "...or WAS IT??!?" x1000 times.
How different would Trump be if he actually served during the Vietnam war?
dead, most likely
Probably would've been captured by the Vietcong while singing like a canary.
Probably would've assaulted a fellow serviceman over some petty insult and sent home to face a court martial, before charges would suddenly get dropped after Fred Trump wrote a few checks.
This one's the most likely. He's unfit to crew a lemonade stand, much less lead a country.
