I'm going to be that guy and say that these are all probably just easter eggs/nods, not the overture to a full-blown ARG - a bit like that one coded message in the developer commentary for Portal 2. Still, says a lot that Valve are thinking in... that general direction again, I'd say.

If this was coming from the late 00's/early 10's Valve I would've been first class on the hype train and this would be a full blown ARG. But this is coming from shadow-of-its-former-self Valve so if anything its just one last passionate little bit of life coming out of Valve amongst the souless cash grab that Valve has become. I would like to be proven wrong though..

Portal 3 is 100 percent not happening. Not because it would be a bad idea, but because Portal 2 was specifically what convinced Valve to abandon single player games entirely. All because Gabe's fucking "single-player plus" model - aka "lets apply TF2 hats to a two player co-op mode" - failed so spectacularly they never even patched in item trading.

There needs to be more going on than an in-game numbers station with a "Still Alive" reference, a few cameras, and some unused loosely connected textures before you can call this an "ARG". What kicked the Portal 2 ARG wasn't just the SSTV images, it was stuff in the background of the images linking to even more content outside of the game.

I used to hate VNN for thinking he made content pandering to the twelve year olds. It was around the time of Hunt Down the Freeman that I think the poor guy finally broke. At this point, I respect Tyler. A lesser person would've quit by now. Looking at Valve go down the shitter in slow motion over the last 7 years would've made me break too.

I don't even care if it's just a silly random nod, even a fake ass tease that even remotely HINTS at their old titles is heartwarming to me, even if it does not mean anything.

tease or nod or not, this is pretty cool. one thing valve was somewhat good at was teasing and making interesting ARG's for their titles, this prolly will go nowhere but if it does, that'll be nice for a company who's been dormant and riding on the success of others and taking tips from them for so long when it used to be everyone taking tips and notes from valve.

What happened to easter eggs that were just, ya know, there? What's the point of making people go through some convoluted process to actually get it? Like those Hitman easter eggs that make you do a bunch of random shit before shooting some really hard to see bells?

scrolling through the reddit thread, someone saw that the orange box was marked BOX 1 and the blue box was marked BOX 2, I'd love to believe in a 2nd orange box but I just don't think that type of valve still exists, and who knows what games they'd push on it lol.
