Yeah, but they've clearly gone beyond the pale with this redesign - and it hasn't even been fully revealed yet. Compare it to the Detective Pikachu trailer, and it's immediately clear where they went wrong - they're trying to make his design more "realistic" - which is ridiculous, because it's not going to actually be any more real, so all they will have accomplished is ruined an aesthetically appealing design. Meanwhile, say what you want about the realistic fur and scales on the Detective Pikachu Pokemon, but at least they otherwise left the original designs as is. And they've been rewarded with a far more positive initial reception than any previous video game movie adaptation in history.

If they had to go through with this, I think they would've been better off doing something closer to the movie version of Rocket. So far this... doesn't seem to be that.
