Production on the Metro 2033 film has halted because it didn’t w..
Nobody wants a diluted Metro 2033 anyways...
“They’re kind of afraid of setting it in Moscow because Americans have a reputation for liking stories about America. Again, with Metro Last Light and Metro 2033 – the books and the games – selling millions and millions of copies worldwide, it’s probably not as improbable now that people would accept a story happening in Moscow because that’s going to be the unique selling point. We’ve seen the American version of apocalypse a lot of times and the audience that like the genre are educated and saturated and not really wishing to get anymore of that.” TL:DR: they thought no one wanted to watch something not set in America and realized they were totally and utterly wrong.
For the best. We already have a story about the post apocalypse in the train tunnels of Washington DC; it's called Fallout 3.
I find the fact that they couldn't even bare the thought of making a Metro movie without stripping of nearly its entire identity and setting it in fucking America, to be sickening and tasteless from a creative standpoint.
wtf, but there have been so many good Americanized versions of unique concepts in recent history!!! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1991245/ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1082868/ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1219827/ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0498381/ Oh, nevermind.
Who would have thought iconic, defining parts of a series are needed to make it what it is and you can't just easily change them as if they don't matter?
What would they replace the Red Star of the Kremlin with lmao? Like a fuckin starbucks sign or some shit?

God could you imagine an american version of bourbon? The names jack daniels Ere Artemis take a swig of this'ere mewnshine fer bein invincible to them anomolous locations I call em fuckers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMUEqRx-C-g
Better to be canceled than poorly altered into an americanized abomination. Seriously, stop it Movie studios. There are place sin the world that aren't the US, and in fact, people want more movies that aren't all about the US. Plus without being set in the Moscow metro, it'd just be generic as fuck. Metro 2033 relies on Russian identity to work.
I hate that this idea was even considered for more than a second before getting immediately thrown out with "But that's fucking stupid"
"Some people call these deamons, I call em fuckers" Get Tarentino to write it and this setence gets a lot funnier.
aw fuck Those movies were so good!
Never understood America's entitlement over the rest of cinema MoNeY iS ArT I gUeSs
I'm glad they cancelled it rather than insulting the source material with some subpar movie.
Yeah they really need to do this more often. Like the Monster Hunter movie, and every shitty videogame movie before it.
I remember when America made a film about a British crew during WWII who stole a German enigma machine and codebook but they changed the Brits to be American.
i'm fucking tired of watching films where Russians are just depicted as the "big and bad" evil villains almost every great story I've liked in the last 15 years that involved a Soviet-bloc background, also tended to portray people from that region in a much more creative and diverse way. add some fucking color, hollywood(and i'm not talking about skin tone, but you could use that too. I'm looking at you, Ghost in the Shell)
I already liked Glukhovsky before, but I think I fucking love him now. An author who prefers integrity over boatloads of money.

Business at the end of the day, if an unmolested Russian metro made them more money they would do it. This country is full of people who have never left there own bubble, and can't relate to other cultures or anything that might be critical of America. America is the biggest market in Cinema and Hollywood won't alienate it.
I went from liking Glukhovsky to loving him when he made comments on Andrzej Sapkowski and called him an "ungrateful schmuck" for his stance against CD Projekt. This is even more icing on the cake. I wish more creators were like Dmirty.
I think it’s because either American consumers are dumb, or at least Hollywood think they are dumb. Perfect example is Blade Runner, which originally wasn’t going to have the idiotic Harrison Ford narration, but American sample groups were so braindead that they had no choice but to include the narration in the theatrical version.
I don't know if I'd say Americans like films set in America, just that producers think American audiences will only care if the film is set in America or follows an American protagonist. Hollywood is ethnocentric in that way, I believe. The only others Hollywood actively panders to is China, because they make up a majority of the international box office. U-571.
Media isn't art, it's goods. We must rid it of unfamiliar elements to sell it to as many people as possible and maximize our profit margins. All glory to the shareholders. </EA>
And he also posted all the chapters from 2035 for free on his social network page before book was out (they're deleted now, but still)
2033 was also initially released this way iirc.
Why would you destroy an adaptation because movies that take place in America do slightly better, as if the fact that you completely destroyed the adaptation wouldn't hurt the movie more than that would help it?
fuck hollywood
