Facepunch just sent two nuclear-capable threads to sensationalist headines.
Good for them! I also learnt to fold paper-planes when i was a kid. I think it's brave basing an entire airforce on it, though.
Ok, that's cool and all but we have missiles that can end the world before your shitty bombers get half way across the Caribbean.
so does russia
Exactly, so dick waving is a bit unnecessary. We all know whats going to happen, why do we still do it?
dick waving is always necessary, otherwise nobody will know how big your dick is
Cuban Missile Crisis v2 Ultra Mild Edition?
Becase that's what you really want in an unstable banana republic in the process of actively collapsing under autocratic socialism, nuclear bombers!
Putin, put your dick away please. It's not as big as you think.
Nuke the dissidents I suppose, less mouths to feed then.
I guess this is supposed to deter the U.S. from interfering in Venezuela?
Eh, I wouldn't be too worried; they almost certainly don't have nukes on board (or indeed any bombs whatsoever), and so they're just about as dangerous as any other (supersonic) conventional bomber. They probably pose more danger to whatever Venezuelan rioter, rebel or whatever who tries to steal them and spectactularly fails to fly them properly than anyone else.
This isn't the first time they've done it, this is a repeat of 10 years ago
On 10 September 2008, two Russian Tu-160 landed in Venezuela as part of military manoeuvres, announcing an unprecedented deployment to Russia's ally at a time of increasingly tense relations between Russia and the United States.
But considering the state Venezuala is in atm, there's probably more at play than just showing the US they still got strategic bombers.
nuclear capable =/= nuclear armed.
No i know, it's just a funny image. It seems like the sort of thing you'd hear on a news blurb in the background of a movie in the first act to set up the story.
nuclear capable doesn't even equal nuclear weapon deliverable. these are massive prop pieces for Russia, these bombers were outdated when they were brand new, then russia started building them again only recently. They're comparable to the B-1B which itself was outdated when new. the only reasons we built them were because of politics and because there was a fear the b2 wouldn't be ready in time to replace the b52
these tu160s would never get close enough to deploy nuclear weapons.
Kinda like us Brits and the (beautiful) Vulcan Bomber.
Supposed to be used for nuke deployment, only time it was ever actually deployed we just bombed an airfield in the Falklands with 1945 era bombs
Now we just have trident, wouldn't surprise me in the next few years a lot of these countries are going to start getting the hand me downs from both West and east in regards to "nuke capable" vehicles and weaponry, just because.
That's fine, the Venezuelan government couldn't afford to fuel them enough to make it off the runway.
