http://time.com/person-of-the-year-2018-the-guardians/ The stout man with the gray goatee and the gentle demeanor dared to disagree with his country’s government. He told the world the truth about its brutality toward those who would speak out. And he was murdered for it. Every detail of Jamal Khashoggi’s killingmade it a sensation: the time stamp on the surveillance video that captured the Saudi journalist entering his country’s Istanbul consulate on Oct. 2; the taxiway images of the private jets bearing his assassins; the bone saw; the reports of his final words, “I can’t breathe,” recorded on audio as the life was choked from him. But the crime would not have remained atop the world news for two months if not for the epic themes that Khashoggi himself was ever alert to, and spent his life placing before the public. His death laid bare the true nature of a smiling prince, the utter absence of morality in the Saudi-U.S. alliance and—in the cascade of news feeds and alerts, posts and shares and links—the centrality of the question Khashoggi was killed over: Whom do you trust to tell the story?
I know we all wanted it to be Mueller here on Facepunch, but this is clearly the best, most deserving possible choice.
Could be a real possibility next year.
Imagine taking down a significant chunk of the GOP in a huge far-reaching treason scandal. That is very much, Person of the Year worthy. I hope we get to see it.
Tactical Twitter Rant Incoming
That would require him to actually acknowledge it happened instead of just sweeping it under the rug because "muh business ties"
Or require that an intern hasn't photoshopped a fake cover with Trump on it and given it to him. Or hand him a 2016 cover, but marker has been used to cross out the 6 and write an 8 instead.
Nah. Donny wanted it to be him. Making it Mueller would just fuel Trump's belief that you either back him or the crooked lyin' FBI.
Oh hey, I called this. Definitely deserved, glad that whoever's behind the person of the year put effort into really finding the best choice. The violent silencing of journalists recently has been terrible, especially when you'very got the "leader of the free world" basically calling for the heads of journalists.
Does anyone outside of the US ever call our president the "leader of the free world"? The rest of the world must be so sick of our shit.
The sarcastic quotation marks are mandatory these days.
Doesn't he litterally claim every year that he was offered TPOTY and turned it down for [insert reason here] like fucking clockwork?
Wooo boy that sure is going to rustle Trump's jimmies
Honestly, it's only said in sarcastic humor. The rest of the planet really only considers the US to make great movies, have great junk food and is military and gun crazy. Probably vvouldn't be so opinionated on it if the US media vvasn't on display constantly in EWurope. (My vv key is broken.)
Yeah, we still only got tip of the iceberg from Mueller. True shit will be hitting for 2019. Only then will Mueller earn to become TIME person of the year.
Yeah, it's a bit of a joke. I know a majority of the people I've known have considered America a bit of a laughing stock since Bush. Maybe longer, but I wasn't old enough to know about it then.
Don't worry donnie i gotchu my dad works for time hold on a sec Edit: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/206832/48eae24e-e50b-45fb-883c-e695776f67b8/ttime.png awwwww nuts
I couldn't think of the correct acronym at first and thought you meant 'Twitter Poster of the Year', because if anything he'd be a strong contender for that.
