https://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2018-12-03/charlie-brookers-wipe-of-year/ Speaking to RadioTimes.com, he explained, “In terms of like Wipe shows, Black Mirror takes up every spare moment that I have so at the moment it’s quite tricky. “Who knows? I wouldn’t necessarily rule out an End of Decade Wipe or something like that.” He then added, “Or an End of the World Wipe. That might be coming up soon.”
Considering that Black Mirror Season 5 is out 28th of December, this make sense. Still, I fucking LOVE his yearly wipes and it's sad we won't get to enjoy one this year either, as last year's one being missing was a shame too.
He didn't make one last year either I'm upset, I really looked forward to these
A new season of Black Mirror is a fair trade I think
Plus the last few year wipes before he stopped were getting progressively sad because all the news was just so soul crushingly awful.
That really fucking sucks considering all of the nonsense that's happened in the past two years, would have been hilarious to hear his take on it.
thought charlie brooker was a rust dev for a second there
Erm, I still love Black Mirror. There are so many ideas for technology gone rogue, tbh. Black Museum and the episode on dating from the last season were really creative, I think.
I'll sound like an ur-hipster but Black Mirror has never interested me, ever, because a significant chunk of the ideas Brooker presents are the same ideas he was talking about ten years ago in his Grauniad Screen Burn columns just put into slightly unconvincing sci-fi CGI episodes and it never really grabbed me. I was more interested in what he had to say about other people's works but sadly that died a death when he became 'in' with the crowd and started actually working with people whose work he criticized earlier in Screenwipe, something he himself admits. It's easy enough to take a pop at Joe Swash when he's a bugger on a screen, but when you meet him down the pub it's awkward. I feel like the Wipe series has had its day, honestly.
Season 2 is ages ago, but White Bear and White Christmas are probably my favourite episodes. The Waldo Moment wasn't great, but it did predict Donald Trump.
Fuck, that's a shame. The past two years have been so interesting and hearing him cover 2016 was one of the most cathartic videos I've ever seen.
