• I want to play a World War 2 game but I don't know what to play.

All the hype around Battlefield V got my World War 2 itch going again. But with all the rebalancing drama and the weird 50% off sale not happening right now I really don't feel like buying it. I reinstalled Red Orchestra 2, but the servers seem dead. I vaguely recall a CoD2-like WW2 shooter announced a few years ago, but I can't find it anywhere. Are there any good and active WW2 games around besides BFV?
have you heard of day of infamy
If you want realism: Day of Infamy or Post Scriptum Arcade and Grind: Heroes and Generals Massive Map w/ good community: Battleground Europe[WW2 Online] For the most part, WW2 games have been pretty shite as of late. BFV and Call of Duty WW2, were both massive let downs.
War thunder. The top tier stuff is a grind, but for a vehicles simulator it’s has the ability (arcade, realism modes) to be a genuine flight sim and a good game. They keep adding stuff though. Boats, helicopters, nobody asked for those, but the devs like expanding.
Foxhole is one of those games that I really want to play but don't know offhand how well it plays or what the community is like.
Red Orchestra 2 best ww2 game all day everyday
You might be thinking of this https://store.steampowered.com/app/489940/BATTALION_1944/
Men of War: Assault Squad 2 Very good RTS focusing only on units and no basebuilding, you can even take direct control of units and sort of make a weak 3ps game out of it.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as RTS, is in fact, real time tactics, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, RTT. RTT is not an real time strategy unto itself, but rather another component of a fully functioning strategy genre made distinct by its focus on squad based tactical gameplay rather than a focus on large scale battles and base building. But, seriously, the entire Men of War: Assault Squad series is great.
Company of Heroes 1 has some decent campaigns, especially the Opposing Fronts expansion that came with a proper German campaign. Also plenty of varied mods available like Eastern Front, Blitzkrieg, Battle of the Bulge, Europe at War, Modern Combat, The Great War, list goes on. CoH2 sp is a little more meh though I enjoyed the challenge brought by Ardennes Assault. CoH2 neutered it's modding side though so it doesn't quite have the longevity of CoH1.
Get Hidden and Dangerous 2 off GoG, that game is awesome and pretty underrated.
do not get battalion, it is dead
If you are looking for a multiplayer game I'm going to second Day of Infamy. It's not the liveliest game around but I never have trouble finding a full game of either competitive or coop. It's a essentially an Insurgency total conversion if you ever played that and can be found for very cheap during sales. I haven't played Post Scriptum and hear mixed reports but it looks decent? I tried Heroes and Generals but couldn't get into it due to the obscene grind and blatant P2W. This was years ago though so maybe it changed; I don't know anyone who plays it so I can't ask. For singleplayer, if you never played World at War that is definitely worth checking out. It's an older game but Treyarch-developed campaigns are generally superior when it comes to CoD. Sniper Elite 3 and 4 are both compelling if you are into pseudo-stealth third person sniping gameplay, and the former can be found for VERY cheap during sales with the latter going down in price as well. The CoD WWII campaign is decent as far as CoD campaigns go but not really worth the price of admission even discounted imo.
I'd like to note that War Thunder spans from everything from biplanes to vietnam era jets
have you played allied assault? it is essential if you want ww2 fps
Nah they're adding in Vietnam era jets. In fact the new update includes supersonic jets and air to air missiles.
Vert true, although the main bulk of the playable vehicles are from that era. The modern tanks, choppers and ships as well as now Cold War era jets are a minority the top of tech trees that have to be played through first.
Without premium, the Warthunder grind is probably one of the most insane of any mmo.
Nothing better then downloading the cheat menu for COH2 and playing 3 hour long turtle sessions with shit tons of bots If only there were some realistic ISH mods for COH 2 like that Europe 44 mod for CoH1, I guess just cheatmod with realism skins is the only way to itch the fact there's no CoH3...
As others have already mentioned: Day of Infamy - probably the best WW2 multiplayer game on the market in recent years though sadly has a very small player base. Call of Duty: World at War - One of the last good CoD's. Also one of the only ww2 fps to have a singleplayer campaign set (partly) in the pacific theater. I'll also add Medal of Honor: Airborne to the list. It's a little short but still very fun to play through.
Super old, but CoD 2 is still a solid experience even after all these years and you can install some mods to spice things up if you've gone through it before. As for more recent titles, Post Scriptum I heard is decent but rough as per the course of an obscure game that's ambitious in scale. Red Orchestra 2 still plays well with enough jank and smoothness to give a unique experience. War Thunder is great if you're more into the vehicle side, but mind the unholy grind. As for BFV, do the usual and just wait a whole year and pick it up for cheap to get a hopefully more complete and polished experience by that time.
I played quite a bit of War Thunder years ago and upon trying to pick it up have found it extraordinarily difficult to find out what I should be doing. There are several game modes, my crew skills are all messed up and I can't reset them, and every tank has it's own era and battle rank. My garage is a clusterfuck of planes and tanks and I can't remember what I had where. I might just make a new account and start from scratch and focus on the tank stuff. Damn, totally forgot about this one. Dunno how easy it is to acquire these days but it is very fun. Likely won't get more than one short (5 hour?) playthrough but I think it's worth it if you can find it for $10 or less.
If you're open to games besides FPS and RTSes, I highly recommend Commandos 2: Men of Courage. It's a 3rd person isometric stealth strategy game set in WWII, and at 5$ it's pretty great. That is, of course, assuming you're into those sorts of games.
The difficulty in that game series is so weird. 1 is pretty hard, 2 is piss easy and I can't get past lvl 1 in the third... I second the guy who said Red Orchestra 2. That game is just sweet once you know how to navigate around certain bugs. Playing Marksman and spending +5 minutes prone to get into that god tier position is just the best WW2 online experience one can have. There are no kill cam or directional death spectate of any sort to help counter a good snipe, the only hard counter is to waste an entire arty wave on 1 sniper and if you die like that you die knowing you did well. It also has a tonne of attention to detail that gives rise to some pretty awesome unscripted events like hiding in a fox hole with your 'dead' friend who is literally gonna cough blood and cry for his mum for 2 straight minutes unless you put a bullet in him
It's up to modern times with the Zulu viper
I've played H&D2 for the first time last year and it has easily become one of my favorite games of all time. And I don't even like WW2 games. Grab this one if you're prepared to get into a slow, tactical and highly rewarding globetrotting WW2 SP experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VZjqb3FhmQ
Call of Duty: WW2 Return to Castle Wolfenstein Wolfenstein 3d (??? does this count? you use chainguns) Silent Storm (this is a ultra-hard xcom like game though)
Silent Storm is really good.
Silent storm along with men of war are both great games if you can deal with or even appreciate serious Eastern European jank
