Just an FYI, please use [VIDEO] tag in your thread title, just helps clarify what type of thread it is.

That gun reminds me, in the CP2077 trailer from 2013 I'm pretty certain the gun that the officer at 1:25 has is very much inspired by the XM-8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P99qJGrPNLs
he said in his 1 mil subscribers video that he already recorded and edited it and its coming on christmas day also: https://horobox.co.uk/u/9rgigk.png she's here.... waiting...
Shame there's no eggplant and sweat ratings
We wouldn't need to if we still had the video subforum. It just makes trying to find videos that much more difficult since they're all compiled in general discussion now.
I posted it above, but for those that missed it, the g11 is definitely on the menu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HYdWhm1fNQ https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/527/8e417825-aedb-489c-b114-29d5c4610420/ian g11.jpg
I wonder how good the XM-8 would be at killing bugs since it was supposed to be more Starship Troopers

I remember when this looked like the next "this gun is everywhere" of the FPS world. Too bad it never got added to a game will customization like Fallout or GRW.
That's because it looked like it might become the US Army's new service rifle, except then the US Army did what it usually does and cancelled the program in favor of the M4.
Actually, acc to the dude Ian talked to who worked on the project, It was actually destined to replace it with the help of a general. But once word got around with it's testing, Colt/S&W got pissed they were kept out of the loop and dug into their pockets to lobby the ever loving shit out of it with congress. Literal politics/corruption caused the XM8 platform from taking off as a potential replacement.
I think the modular slot accessory systems we have today would have been out a good decade earlier if the XM8 continued. That accessory system is really the only thing that set the XM8 apart from the typical rifle.
He's already confirmed that the G11 video is coming on Christmas Day.
It’s a real shame that HK hates civilians. I think the g36 and xm8 like would have been a great addition to the civilian market. I was under the impression that the melting/accuracy issues don’t really become a problem unless you’re using sustained fire or mag dumping for over a couple hundred rounds, which I don’t think most people in civilian applications are probably going to be doing most of the time anyway. Also that PCAP system looks like it could have been a great mounting system if it had the opportunity to catch on in the market and allow third parties to expand upon compatible accessories to go with it. Being able to retain zero with optics seems like a pretty big deal and everything else looked really easy to install without having to worry about how tight your threads are. With my current setup, I’m always hesitant to adjust anything and it usually requires tools.
There's a civi G36 for sale in Europe called the HK243. It was due to be imported to the US as the HK293, but that was cancelled due to difficulties with German Export and US Import laws. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/IWA-2014-HK-4.jpg
Tell those lazy fucks to just do what everyone else does and make a factory based in the USA. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.
German export laws apply to the exporting of intellectual property, IE designs. So they essentially have to go through the same hoops to export production of a gun as they would to export the gun itself.
Yeah, I've always found this weapon and its history fascinating. The grenade launcher part of the original OICW became its own weapon, the XM-25. Supposedly, the XM-8 is really lightweight, too. There's an episode of Jormungand that had a scene with one of the characters gushing about it.
It's not as light as people think, actually weighs slightly more than a barebones AR carbine. The weight advantage it had in testing came from the fact that, at the time, its integrated scope was very compact and lightweight for a scope of that capability at the time it was tested, so they argued it was technically lighter than an AR with the older scopes in service at the time.
