https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-12-15/obamacare-core-provisions-ruled-unconstitutional-by-judge Obamacare was struck down by a Texas federal judge in a ruling that casts uncertainty on insurance coverage for millions of U.S. residents. U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Fort Worth agreed with a coalition of Republican states led by Texas that he had to eviscerate the Affordable Care Act Texas and an alliance of 19 states argued to the judge that they’ve been harmed by an increase in the number of people on state-supported insurance rolls. They contended that overturning the law would throw millions off health insurance rolls by reversing Medicaid expansion, ending tax credits that help people and empowering insurers to once again deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions.
Just gonna get appealed and the SCOTUS makeup isn't much different then it was during Sebelius.
No doubt a million fools will be clapping at this thinking "won't affect me, I'm on ACA!".
What is it with some americans who keep going "helping people to not become poor thanks to one stroke of misfortune" is somehow communist?
Because they're controlled by propaganda.
Oh so just let those people get debted for life if they get injured. Gotcha. Hey think about prescriptions too. If you take away prescription coverage, al types of meds wont be covered like antipsychotics and other essential life changing medication. Out of reach from the people who need it most. Millions would lose access to free mental health and a dramatic spike in crime and drug use to follow. From my experience a portion of low income individuals with mental health issues self medicate to cope. And ive known several that have gotten free treatment because of the ACA that has changed their lives. I just cant see why people are so against helping people.
"taxation is theft" also: https://twitter.com/sarahkliff/status/1073758765420290048
Because helping people is not helping yourself.
Because if we help other people how will I afford to put another downpayment on a new four-wheeler that I can't actually afford without the 72 month financing at 26.99% APR?
Give us single-payer or universal, or you give us death.
so setting a tax to 0 suddenly invalidates the entire healthcare law even though the tax is still on the books as a law and can be set to whatever as congress sees fit. ya I can't see this being overturned on appeal.
Literally nothing will change. Assuming RBG doesn't drop dead by the time it reaches the Supreme Court, it'll go exactly the same way it did last time, with Roberts siding with the four liberal justices. I'm going to assume the only reason this cunt of a judge made this ruling is to score brownie points with the ultra-red dumb-fucks back in his home state. Because he can't be stupid enough to think he's actually accomplishing anything, can he?
You know they'd be all too happy to.
Man obamacare can screw over low income families because money grubbing companies use it as an excuse to gimp their healthcare options. how can you hate human life so much as to want to actively avoid helping others
I don't care what people say about Obamacare, I was able to afford insurance and without it my job would take $300 of my paycheck for a health insurance plan that still doesn't cover the essentials I would need in case of an emergency. People's healthcare and wellbeing should NOT be a game to politicians, you are playing with LIVES. You are going to KILL people who cannot afford insurance.
Going to? They already have.
Well, campaigning on healthcare seemed to help the democrats, and republicans just confirmed the democratic rhetoric that they're irresponsible. Once the 1 in 4 americans with pre-existing conditions lose coverage and the financial burden increases; hopefully (if SC agrees with the ruling), people will vote out these crony shmucks.
and someone else will just fill their place even if they were actually Nazis unless you intend to eliminate half the country
We don't need to end any lives to kill the GOP, we just need to convince their voting base of the truth that their favored party doesn't have their best interests in mind. ...Easier said than done but the Blue Wave showed us that it's possible.
In some ways the ruling made sense. Removing the individual mandate was the backbone of the law, the real blame for this lies with the Congress, not the judge
Except that mandate was held up by the SC.
right but congress gutted the mandate. this judge isnt ruling that obamacare is unconstitutional, hes ruling that obamacare sans the mandate is which is the world we are currently living in (there is no longer an individual mandate in the USA)
A higher court could make Congress put the tax back up.
But who isn't? Everyone I've ever spoken to on politics is either parroting the CNN narrative or the fox news one.
this shit is counter productive and why you're a left wing mcarthy.
What do you mean by this? When the court ruled that Obamacare was constitutional, they said it didn't violate the Constitution, not that there was an affirmative obligation to have an individual mandate. The mandate was an act of Congress, and their removal of it was their own doing. That such a removal now puts the entire Obamacare architecture in jeopardy does not mean that a court finding would reverse the legislature's tax "reform". The onus would be on Congress to pass another individual mandate and/or roll back the tax "reform." The supreme Court doesn't write laws, they just judge them
Certain courts have ruled that states have spent unconstitutionally low amounts on things in the past, but that's probably a state constitution thing. But the main thing is that I'm fucking worried and would really rather have the ACA still up by any means necessary.
The only way to defeat nazi's is to be nazi's I see, very big brained
I mean, the republican party can rot in a fucking ditch, but I wouldn't go as far to say that everyone belonging to the party should be executed.
