Strange, saying a that half life for the Mac is gone forever when we have an inhouse fully funcioning HL1 port for Mac now.
But yeah, dark times those were for Mac gamers, thankfully Blizzard was there at the time.
I remember an interview with one of the developers of this.
They had this cute little feature that'd put the Apple or Windows logo next to the player's name depending on their platform of choice.
Cancelling a game three weeks from release is really stupid. Mind boggling stupid.
A racing game called 4x4 Evolution did this, and it had cross platform play between Mac, PC, and Dreamcast. Dreamcast could even download custom maps.
sounds like this was a call made by Sierra. Remember that Sierra owned the Half-Life IP before Valve bought it back while in production for HL2.
Regardless, this was not a great time for Apple. This was in development for the Classic Mac OS right around the time iMac launched, and lets just say OS 8 and OS 9 weren’t the most stable.
It would of probably worked better if they lined up the port with OS X 10 as I'm sure Jobs was always wanting a killer app, guess they never thought to wait
Man the Dreamcast was such an amazing machine for its day.
