Almost feel like I'd prefer a box that activates something at the home itself
A box with a brick inside and tracker, and if you run off with it, an turret opens up and prays you with gallons of ice cold water
I know he did it for a laugh and as a "fuck you thief" but he really should've took the videos of the ones where they actually opened it inside their own house along with gps data and sent it to the police. No sympathy for thieves.
Do you not have to sign for packages in the US? I would file a complaint if a delivery was ever left on my doorstep because I wasn't in to accept it.
One time a guy stole my package, and he didn't realize I was hunting him until the 4th hour. By the 27th hour he was growing exhausted and delirious, and was making mistakes. He had made the fatal mistake of leaving his droppings, and after one taste I knew exactly who he was, and where he was going. By the 72nd hour, I was just letting him stew in his own paranoia and fear. Thats when I got him with my weapon of choice: the super soaker. I let him keep the ink cartridges from China he stole from my doorstep because it was an exciting hunt.
You can request signature when shipping but it costs extra. Because of this, it tends to only be used for expensive stuff from non-standard retailers.
I'm just waiting for the "Package thief gets HANDS BLOWN OFF by bait package bomb" video
Using glitter is a bad idea, if it gets into your eyes... you are facing a serious damage even losing the eyes.
Also if you inhale it, it might also damage the lungs.
I wish it would have been something worse then glitter, so staining color or so.
I guess that would be too risky in the US, quite the sad story that thieves could actually sue him.
So many stories of package thieves, almost exclusively from the US.
You would really think they would change that system but who knows who profits from this enough so it doesn't get changed.
good, they stole the package after all
I'd have used bear mace instead of fart gas
Nope. Usually on expensive items but most of them don't require anything. Who's home anyways to get a package?
The real lesson to be learnt here is NASA engineers are not to be trifled with.
It sure is nice living in bumblefuck USA where I never have to worry about shit like this other than the occasional bear deciding to come up to my sliding door and eating out of my garbage can while I'm sitting there 2 feet from the door.
Honestly, just for extra measure, I'd probably cook up some form of extract of poison ivy and other itching herbs, and coat the glitter with it. Make their house and or car p.much impossible to enter without suffering constant scratching pain.
I remember there was a guy who rigged a shotgun loaded with blanks to fire when somebody tried to steal his packages because they kept on getting stolen. The idea was to scare the hell out of people trying to steal his packages but I think there was some sort of legal issue with him doing that.
Can you not at least give instructions to the courier on where to hide it? Or is it too much work to even bother on both sides.
Some services and stores do include delivery instructions as an option where you can just write things for them to do. So you could tell them to take it to a back door or a free standing garage, or whatever. If they do that depends on the delivery person, but as long as the instructions don't involve anything too exhaustive like climbing fences or having to walk long distance, they'll usually comply simply because they don't want to be reported for it. But a lot of people don't often have places to do that, like the home I grew up in, reaching the back door meant going through frankly dangerous very tall grass. And I'm in an apartment now so for the most part they either stuff it in the mailbox or leave it with the property office.
Yes. For starters that would be leaving a weapon in unsafe storage so that can be a problem in a lot of places that require them to be secured at all times. Second, even blanks can cause harm and again it would be unsafe storage as places also often require firearms to be stored unloaded. Third, I believe it is a felony to create or use any device that can cause harm autonomously. So rigging a tripwire to a shotgun or blade or bear repellant or whatever absolutely could cause harm. You never know if you're getting the thief who tried to steal your package, a delivery man who had to shift the one there already to place another one, a cop coming to talk to you for one reason or another, or just some kids who might be just fucking about. And since you're almost certainly not at risk of harm, a self-defense argument wouldn't go over even if you did get an actual thief.

Wasn't there one where a thief slipped and broke her leg and her partner had to carry her to the car? That one's great.

No mercy for thieves.
I would love to see some more brutal stuff like cash dye packs. But again US laws are funny.
As much as I would love capsaicin spray, that stuff has moments where it would cause serious bodily harm or trigger a bad reaction that could seize their breathing.
That guy that just stares at the package in complete dismay is what made my day. Embodiment of poor choice.

Usually if you aren't home they drop off a card and either leave it with a neighbour, redeliver the next day or you can pick it up from the depot/post office.
Here it just goes to the next package shop or the next main post office in town.
You can either get it as soon as its there (usually end of their route) or next day.
Often they try to give it to a neighbor first though.
Personally I switched to DHL Packetstations.
Free, 24/7 available and I can even send packages with them.
Decently spaced as well, so it works for most things unless I wanna order like a monitor or so.
I even get extra points for using them, they are amazing, I wish my building had those directly but I'm okay with walking 15min.
