https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/electoral-reform-referendum-results-1.4954538 Elections BC announced the results Thursday, saying 61.3 per cent of ballots had been cast in favour of the status quo. Premier John Horgan said he was disappointed by the outcome but respected the decision. "British Columbians have now spoken and chosen to stick with the current voting system. This referendum was held because we believe that this decision needed to be up to people, not politicians," Horgan said in a news release. Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson applauded the results, saying they represented "the power of democracy," but also slammed the referendum as a whole. "This was a flawed process from the beginning as the NDP stacked the deck to satisfy the Green Party and remain in power. This was never been about improving our democracy, it was always about power and control," Wilkinson said in a statement.  The referendum was part of the confidence and supply agreement the NDP struck with the Green Party to secure its support of the minority government. ...fffffffffffffor fuck's sakes...
Tyranny of the Majority at work. Good God, why are people so fucking stupid?
Because anything more complex then winner take all is literally too hard to understand for 70% of people.
There was also a push by the conservative parties and lobby groups to scare people away from it, arguing that it was too complex or that it would end up giving an extreme party a bunch of power and give us a Donald Trump or whatever.
The irony is that FPTP (and a broken Electoral College but never mind that) got Trump elected. Proportional representation, especially in a multi-party environment like Canadian provincial/national politics, provides voters with the most diversity and meaningful choice with their vote.
I bet only 50/55 out of 70% who vote keep it are simply moronic reactionaries who keep believing their system does “works” spite how progressively broken it is, While rest of them are also buying BC Liberal propaganda unironically thinking this system “is for people” despite again not entirely true anymore if you look how my country is effected by this and continuously make them fooling themselves.
Are you fucking joking
FUCK As soon as I was filling out the ballot and it was like: Do you want: 1) First Past the Post Or 2a) Proportional Representation Type 1 2b) Proportional Representation Type 2 2c) Proportional Representation Type 3 I knew it was fucked. I knew most people would rather go "ah fuck it" instead of taking the ten minutes of google research that I did to know the difference between the three. Even when the ballot was god damn mailed to them.
Yeah, I can see why it failed if it was written like that. And lol at the liberals not supporting the change.
Like its former affiliated national party too for lying of promising Electoral reform just as desperate but sadly work attempted of getting NDP voters back to Liberal.
Only way for that not to have failed if it was a simple Yes/No poll. No wonder it flopped like it did over in the UK when we did the same shit,
Ok, But their referendum was on (two only) question with (five overall) choice poll. Which oddly enough somehow its problem for two times and failed to read it right. How? When I researched up for 2011 United Kingdom Alternative Vote referendum has Yes/No question method you just want. And fail anyway due both region have weak mentally minded majority.
