In 2014, Mattis Said What Would Make Him Resign In Protest. In 2018, He Actually Did It Later, during his April 2014 talk in San Francisco, he was asked specifically about whether there was a scenario in which he may have retired in protest. Mattis allowed some unethical orders and other scenarios that would lead him to do so, but he said, “you have to be very careful about doing that. The lance corporals can’t retire. They’re going. That’s all there is to it.” He added: “You abandon him only under the most dire circumstances, where the message you have to send can be sent no other way. I never confronted that situation.” In Dec. 2018, it looks like he finally did. https://taskandpurpose.com/mattis-resign-protest/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share&utm_content=tp-share
Incase it wasn't crystal clear since the title does dance around with it a bit, James Mattis has resigned.
Mattis, please give us a last gift before you go and drag Trump out with you. Kicking and screaming or far less lively, it doesn't matter too much.
Wow, amazing, the president can't even tell the truth about this. He's claiming that Mattis "retired" instead of "resigned" in order to make it sound like it isn't a bad thing. Thank you for your services, Jim Mattis. If only congress and our president could be the kind of American you are: with a spine and cause for the American public.
I'm guessing this has something to do with either (or both) the rushed withdrawal from Syria (Mattis has to be advising against it, and if you're going to be ignored why stay?) and the continued use of troops at the border as a political ploy (it's Christmas, let them come home to their families, it's accomplishing nothing).
He spent years trying to guide trump away from military and international stupidity and failed. Well, at least he tried.
North Korea is not a radioactive crater yet, I think he did good enough given the circumstances.
And the way we've treated our allies and foes. He mentions that directly in his letter.
Jim, just shoot the bastard.
Im willing to bet he has a plan to kill Donald Trump like everyone else.
Saw an article about how Mattis was thinking he would be picked by Hillary but got picked by Trump instead
Most people here consider Mattis quite favourably. What's the reason for that? Was it because people considered him the guy stopping a full blown nuclear war? If so, what happens now?
Let's be real. That plan will consist of two steps; Deprive him of diet Coke Stop him getting McDonald's Then it's just a waiting game before his body finally collapses in on itself.
