Several suggestions for food preservation:
- Alum
- Alum water
- salt brining
- salting
- sugar coating
- making food with large amounts of sugar in the ingredients.
- honey
- canning
- vinegar
- smoking
- drying/dehydrating
- placing in a fridge
- placing in a cooled underground cellar
- placing in a cooler with ice
- placing in a warmer to keep food at edible food safe temperatures for a short time until eaten or it becomes inedible.
- Preservation through packaging (like eggs for example) in airtiht and moisture tight packaging like shellac or varnish.
- Preserving via pacakging in a box filled with barley or wood ash for example.
- Fermentation and aging. (IRL these must be done EXACTLY correctly, or the food actually spoils and rots and they can VERY easily result in something poisonous. The same truth should hold in Rust as well).
Why bother............. If I want real life i can switch off my computer spend 7 days in a job... so i can buy electricity, expirable food...... and the latest food preservation systems
What's next? Preservatives as a BP?
a plan to allow players to make apple jelly and salted pork?... perhaps we can start collecting ovens, oven gloves & irons...... to start training us to take more responsibility in our real lives.
This all sounds like a way to fill un-intersting gameplay with another useless time consuming task.
Tell me....... why does Grand theft auto , call of duty, DOTA, Starcraft NOT have such systems , could it be that they have outstanding games play that does not require such nonsense?
At the end of the day rust is a survival game
Yes agree...... it's not a 18Th Century "good housekeeping" course for the newly married.
what next Ironing ??

Ok that was funny af reading that XD
Yeah I dont think rust should go overboard with the survival aspects but it should be underlining.

I do agree food sources should degrade over time! I think all food should start with a "Decay.Scale "0.2" and after 4-7 days it should be close to needing to be consumed or spoiled. This would be a much better change then adding electrical bullshit.
I feel like once I farm a couple bears and pumpkins I am good for the entire wipe cycle, only grabbing mushrooms as i farm. It would be nice to see people fighting over food sources, making Farms more important.
People are missing the point.......
it is a business... you have 3 options.
Grow
Sell
stagnate & die.
From a business perspective people are not going to go "wow... holy shit RUST just added food expiry options... thats a must buy game"....
Yep programmers love to show off... but adding all this continual micrometer adjusted unending complexity is a recipe for disaster... where do you stop?
The game is already getting slow and rubber-banding way more than when I bought it.... Intricacies like this taken too far DO NOT scale well.
I would rather they put more work into adding say another 5-10 scenarios...
The new AI was a BIG start... way better... get a sniper rifle on a scientist and see him bob & duck.. , get an AK on him & he behaves differently.
and they blew it with Santa......... I should have been able to RPG that sucker out of the sky....... perhaps cull a couple of his reindeer.... sending him into a spiral....
Let's have groups of NPC's roaming the map killing everything followed by groups of scientist clean up crews... backed up with gun ships .... Cower in your base or join in....
Not endless rules of .. "well this chicken looks a bit off....", "should I eat the beef before the wolf"
I do think that we should very well have a preservation system with the food in this game because, have you ever looked in your chest FILLED with food? Rust is a survival game, and if we add a system as such. It will be harder to survive, food will be more scarce, and there is a reason behind roaming for FOOD. Now the way we have it at the moment is, food is abundant for people with ANYTHING higher than a crossy.
