The least religious states are Alaska and Montana, they also have the highest suicide rates (probably from the isolation) but I'm sure some nut will use it as evidence about how lack of religion causes suicide.
I've stopped watching local news. If you only interact with the universities down here, you can forget Alabama is like this. I feel like the last good thing to come out of this region was when the internet gushed over Alan Sealls, our local chief meteorologist.

considering he named his daughter after an Ayn Rand character and I've seen exactly one long form interview where he kept his literal South Park politics in check and the fact his 'community editors' have carte blanche to make political edits to topics but get into literal fights over name corrections, you're left with Doug Jones and some NASA folks.
