Finnish court orders Jehovah's Witnesses to end illegal data gat..
"The ruling by Finland’s Supreme Administrative Court follows a review of the practice requested from the European Court Justice. In July, the ECJ published its opinion, saying that the practice of Jehovah’s Witnesses collecting personal information as members proselytise door-to-door is illegal, because the organisation is effectively compiling a personal data register, which should comply with data protection regulations."
Get fucked real-life stereotypical Millennialist cult from Bible Study movement.
One would hope they'd go after the Mormons too but I don't know the extent of their size outside of the US.
BTW the Mormons have been compiling a massive database on everyone because after the end of the world they have to posthumously convert everybody to mormonism
They also own one of those ancestry sites called 23andme or AncestryDNA, right?
ancestry.com I think.
They're not actually going to stop collecting information, they've been warned before.
Why not have the police raid where they keep the data then?
If warnings are ignored, then it's time to turn up the heat on them.
Because religion.
Things will be much better in a couple decades when the older people start dropping like flies, but until then, we're fucked.
What's to prevent these unlawful practices to help feed their numbers into the future, though?
Just "hoping the problem goes away" doesn't prevent nor punish people who break the law.
Because it's mostly private journals and the like, I don't think they have a place the cops could raid.
One of the reasons this was debated for a fairly long time and why they disputed the claim.
Well the OP says the courts have ruled against them, that it is an illegal act.
From this point onward at least, they are definitely considered breaking the law and should be held to as such.
I agree. It will be incredibly hard to enforce though because this is literally people writing things down on pieces of paper. I think the only reason they even had a case was because one of the JWs dropped a notebook containing personal information.
I think authoritarian methods like that are a little bit too
unnecessarily disruptive for Finnish society, the problem is not serious enough to
warrant anything other than a visitation from some local bureaucrat (who might have a very disagreeable disposition, you better watch out for him!) and then some fines.
That should be unironically sin of shoal not steal, but because of their 'holy leaders' bad math and fall doomsday prophecy BS, They will definitely sending them into "Christian" Hell (despite having pagan origins from denomination that hate their Religion's "Un-Christian" holidays) anyway.
