It's being actively discussed here if you want updates from insiders.

I have no idea what this thing is, why would someone take it?
...how the fuck does someone steal a goddamn animatronic? there's no way you'd get something of that size through the park, and i couldn't believe someone would be able to go all the way through backstage without being spotted.
I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out the culprit turns out to be a cast member. It is easy to get to the backstage road from WoL and they probably put him in a box before leaving the Cranium Command area, which apparently has no cameras.
actually, isn't the area behind WoL/energy a big construction zone for guardians? someone from that site would have the access and tools needed to yoink something like this.
To add, I'm pretty sure the entirety of WoL doesn't have cameras which explains why most people that have snuck into the building literally just walked in until a CM going to a conference room/Wellness area caught them.
I'm not surprised they jumped on backdoor Disney, seems behind the scenes photos = criminal mastermind.
The big take away is that Cranium Command shut down, and Disney did absolutely nothing with it for that long?
That's standard operating procedure for Disney. They shutter stuff but usually don't demolish anything until they have a replacement planned. Surprised they even kept the hydraulic lines connected though.
The Wonders of Life Pavilion in general hasn't changed much after it was made into the seminar center, and if you get behind the blocked off areas, Body Wars' queue is still up (I think), even though the actual ride carts are long gone. Not surprised the Cranium Command stuff is still assembled.

someone sent in photos of the removed buzzy aa to these guys, doesn't look like a very professional operation to me.
This is so ridiculous that at first I thought this is some crazy PR stunt.
The police report came out and it appears according to the official report it was only his clothes and his hands were stolen:

China loves reverse engineering
Yes, let them reverse engineer 1989 tech.
If it was being removed and sent off to the Archives, it doesn't matter how it was done. Was the AA removed in one piece? Yes? Good. Archives wants an object and how they remove it doesn't matter as long as said object is removed in one piece. Snipping some wires and lines isn't a big deal. Keep in mind they end up like this in the Archives:

I'm doubting the whole "hydraulic fluid all over the place" part. Everything is still covered in dust which would've been removed if they were sanitizing the area.
Here's a good summary of what's happening as of right now: https://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/buzzy%E2%80%99s-been-stolen.952108/page-37#post-8505179
BDD/Spikes was the Twitter account "BackDoorDisney". He was known to go where he (or his resources) wanted and captured video of backstage areas. Makes sense he was brought in due to him being the most recent high profile trespasser.
Being a fan of the parks, I find this especially tragic.

As seen at 5:09 in this video of a popular urbexer (Matt Sonswa) exploring the ride, Buzzy and other important ride props had a "DO NOT DESTROY" tag; meaning that they were going to be saved/archived by Disney if the ride was ever demolished.
If Buzzy is actually stolen, the original animatronic might never be seen again.
I had to explain this over on WDWMagic. "Do not destroy" tags are not a sure fire way that something is going to be saved. The tags have an ID and the Archives phone number on them that should be called in when the demo/construction crews are on site (crews are also known to overlook these tags and destroy anyways, the small orange ones at least). The Archives will say to save or destroy it at that point. Even then, the tagged object may still make it to the Archives and be deemed not worth the storage space and either be destroyed or sold.
Buzzy is historic and should be saved obviously. But DND tags are not the final say that most interpret them as.
Oh, my bad! Shouldn't have made the assumption that those tags determined the final say in the matter. Do you think those other props that are tagged might not survive the demolition then?
I would not know that. Aside from Buzzy and Hypo, I'm not sure what else they would want for the Archives. I'm sure they have the signage or at least part of it saved. I believe someone over on WDWMagic said the countdown clock was removed a couple months ago as well. Maybe one of the "eye" screens? But those are only screens and weren't tagged in the above video at the time so I somewhat doubt that.
