The Senate has adjourned until Monday without taking action to end the partial government shutdown, ensuring that the funding lapse will drag on for days.
The chamber will next meet for a pro forma session on Monday morning, then will reconvene after Christmas on Thursday, Dec. 27, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)
announced. Though votes don’t occur during a pro forma session, which typically only last seconds, senators are able to clear any legislation by unanimous consent.
“As I said earlier, I am glad that productive discussions are continuing. When those negotiations produce a solution that is acceptable to all parties—which means 60 votes in the
Senate, a majority in the House, and a presidential signature—at that point, we will take it up here on the Senate floor," McConnell said from the Senate floor.
McConnell's comments came as Trump and Democrats on Saturday appeared to dig in on their positions over funding for the president's proposed border wall amid the funding
stalemate. Lawmakers had gathered at the Capitol on Saturday afternoon in the hopes of finding a way forward to end the shutdown, which is affecting about 25 percent of the federal
government.
But the White House and lawmakers acknowledged on Saturday afternoon that prospects for a deal had not increased, even after making a last-ditch pledge to negotiate hours before
the deadline on Friday night. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) said that a deal on Saturday was "probably not probable."
A senior administration official told reporters during a call on Saturday that they hoped the partial government closure lasted only a "few days," acknowledging that it would drag into
next week.
The earliest time to stop it is Thursday, when the Senate starts a full session.
Call his bluff. Send him nothing but bills that explicitly forbid that stupid fucking wall.
Tim Ryan said it best:

If this turns into a protracted battle it is going to functionally shutter a number of projects I'm involved with. We've spent the past year and a half working up preliminary data for some NSF grants, and there's only so much of these projects we can fund on our own.
This is part of why research output keeps getting concentrated to a handful of unis and part of why the rust belt/rural America keeps getting fucked. People with money get more money. People without don't get tenure, and then low research output gets used as justification to shutter departments/cut funding which turns into a death spiral for the entire university.
Dear lord, that was glorious. Glad to see someone on the Congress floor itself to come out and say, "Our memories extend further than the past month, you morons."
I like where the video cuts
"Learn how to govern the cunt!"
I like to think he said Cunt and was referring to Trump, myself
Nah, he was clearly talking about safe sex.
Why did he ever say Mexico was gonna pay for it, it seems like such an unnecessary lie that was obviously gonna come back to fuck him later
Have... have you ever read anything about Trump? The man will say literally anything that pops into his head if he thinks it will help him right now, and damn the consequences of later. He can just lie about never having said it then.
Except we're seeing that it's not coming back to fuck him at all and the people that were enjoying hearing that don't care. Not enough people feel betrayed enough.
#DrainTheCunt
Is there anything his sheep fanbase won't drop him for? short of him going to their house and taking a hot steaming shit on their doorstep?
It's a cult of personality, it'll only stop when he dies.
Unfortunately that won't even stop it. The only way to really kill it off is if the Republican party at large does a 180 and dismantles it themselves.
close it to january 3rd. Paul Ryan deserves to be railroaded out of washington like this.
It's only fitting that the era of total GOP control ends with a two-week government shutdown
