https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/12/21/stowaways-attempting-swim-britain-threaten-crew-ship-iron-bars/ Four stowaways who allegedly threatened the crew of a cargo ship with armed bars were detained by police on Friday night after an operation to secure the vessel was launched off the Kent coast.  The crew of Grande Tema, en route from Lagos in Nigeria to Tilbury in Essex, locked themselves on the bridge after the stowaways they had discovered broke free from a cabin and started to make their demands. The men had allegedly demanded the crew sail close to the British coast so they could jump off and swim ashore. The incident came to an end after Royal Navy helicopters were deployed amid reports that elite Special Boat Service commandos had been deployed to carry out the operation. Essex Police, which oversaw the operation, said: “We have secured a vessel in the Thames Estuary. Four men have been detained under the Immigration Act". They said the vessel was boarded at around 11pm and would be brought to the Port of Tilbury to dock. Some other articles used the term Migrant, which I suppose is technically the case. But the general term for anyone who hides on a ship is a stowaway. Pretty bold plan. Did they honestly expect it to work? If they got close enough to jump and swim there's still a good chance of dying in the water unless you're a fantastic swimmer.
...Counter Terrorists Win?

I would give your average nigerian about 1 minute, if that, in the English Channel or North Sea before their muscles seized up and they sank like stones. I'd give a native an extra few minutes max if they had swum in a winter ocean before.w What a fucking stupid plan.
