According to the post, G2A does this because "it costs money to upkeep accounts".
Borderline illegal market place does something scummy and borderline illegal. Big fucking shocker there mate, what a fucking twist.
As one Reddit user said, it might cost $1 dollar every thousand years so there's literally no justification for this at all.
Just another reason why G2A is shitty and I'm ashamed that a few years ago I bought some games off of there.
Didn't use G2A Pay but I deleted my account all the same.
PC gaming is cheaper than ever thanks to Steam and other digital marketplaces, and yet apparently that's not enough for some people. If you're going to stoop to the level of using a shit site like G2A, you might as well just fucking pirate the games, cause your money ain't going to the developers regardless.
What the fuck is the point of G2A ? Just pirate your games or buy them legit.
As far as Im concerned g2a is dodgey as fuck and theres no Guarentee the devs are getting a cent of the key you paid for.
should have attached it to a non existent credit card so it """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""costs them upkeep""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Yeah, fuck this nonsense. I'm deleting mine as well, absolutely scum.

An its real, they are absolutely scum. Even if they did charge me a 1$ for that. I ain't giving them a cent and they can fight me for that whole buck.
I only used it to buy games for a friend. Steam and their stupid gift restrictions have fucked me over from sending gifts to friends in other countries. Can't gift shit to Americans.
haha lmao yeah they do this bullshit where they add your paypal as a "subscription" when you check out, then they can charge it whenever the hell they want, letting paypal think it's a charge you allowed via a subscription.
They started charging me a long time ago and I caught it and immediately told paypal.
That wasn't even this bullshit, it was just random charges. Not shocked they've started charging people for "inactivity"
As someone who runs an e-commerce site that also offers store credit: it costs absolutely nothing to maintain these accounts.
Having the money in the account vs. not having the money in it doesn't make a difference. They'd have to delete the account in order to make any difference, and they're certainly not going to do that because one of the principles of web development is that you never delete data unless you absolutely have to.
Always-Online DRM makes piracy difficult which in turn indirectly promotes sites like this.
Guys. Keep in mind this is not the gaming store site but the G2A Payment Service (think PayPal).
They are not the same thing.
Still really scummy as a database entry or two doesn't cost you shit in the long run.
I've had something similar happen with one of my bank accounts, if it was inactive for too long they would charge me an "Inactivity fee".
Just made a cash transfer to one of my other bank accounts to avoid it, this stuff is utterly stupid.
At the very least inactive fee is sort of a "handling fee" as dormant accounts can be flagged as abandoned property which can cause headaches for the bank.
Nonetheless, evil-doing of another does not justify the other, and the excuse given by G2A is just garbage.
G2A is a consequence of companies developing their titles with an "online required" type of DRM, which largely counters traditional piracy.
G2A is a consequence of an ethically bankrupt company enabling money launderers and criminals as a primary business strategy.
that's exactly what this user was saying, that it would take like 1000 years for it to run up any sort of cost so G2A could fuck off with their excuse.
Don't delete your accounts to punish them; create more! If accounts really are that expensive to have sitting about, let's bankrupt them with alts!
Right, I was just agreeing with you.
Jesus, the scary thing is I can almost imagine EA and Activision doing something like this for their games.
Thank god I never used those g2play/g2a websites I think my cousin did to buy some currency or something for League.
I like allkeyshop.com because it shows all those other websites and you can choose the least scummy of them. I bought from cdkeys and gamivo and the keys worked fine.
Is G2Play connected to it? I have an account there but haven't used it since 2014.
I've seen shit like this on apps from the app store too. They lure you into a trial to get you to put in your card details and then start charging you on a weekly basis. Sneaky lil fuckers. Old folks see free trial and they'll put their thumbprint in without thinking about it. It's the definition of predatory.
G2A are definitely shady as hell.
Always had good experiences with cdkeys.com though so I guess they're not all bad. Much cheaper than Steam directly too.
Typically, if the site is much cheaper than Steam, and they don't mention anything about getting their keys from the actual publisher, they're grey market. Best not to engage with them, because the only people getting money from those exchanges is the site, not the devs at all.
As for why people use them, it's because they tend to have cheaper prices, and a lot of games revolve around or absolutely require an online connection. This attracts would be pirates, because while they can't pirate a multiplayer game and play it online, can probably settle for the second best that is getting it much cheaper than legit stores offer.
It's also because not that many people know or care that these are grey market sites. They just see a game for cheap and make the jump, without caring about things like the key being obtained through credit fraud or the developers not actually getting anything in return from the purchase.
A more minor reason was also touched on, that being Steam's ridiculous gifting boundaries. Believe it or not, people have online friends in different countries sometimes, and because of Steam's limitations, they can't buy games for their friends, and so have to resort to a key re-seller.
A representative for G2A stepped in to the thread to explain the company's position
They seem to want to give EA a run for their money for the "most downvoted comment on Reddit" award.
I'm genuinely staggered people still support this company after other scandals have been revealed over the months/year.
They've already tried to tax consumers in the form of those online passes, which were eventually dropped.
Databases are getting cheaper every year with the surplus of computing power and the accessibility of them through the cloud.
please refer to my post above where I tell you they did this same fraudulent charge bullshit to me on their game resell site
heck, refer to the fact that g2a is scum in the first place even before all that
