The world’s first ever no-kill eggs are now on sale in Berlin after German scientists found an easy way to determine a chick’s gender before it hatches, in a breakthrough that could put an end to the annual live shredding of billions of male chicks worldwide.
The patented “Seleggt” process can determine the sex of a chick just nine days after an egg has been fertilised. Male eggs are processed into animal feed, leaving only female chicks to hatch at the end of a 21-day incubation period.
An estimated 4-6 billion male chicks are slaughtered globally every year because they serve no economic purpose. Some are suffocated, others are fed alive into grinding or shredding machines to be processed into reptile food.
This is a massive ethical step in the right direction. Holy shit.
Very nice news, less dead chicks and a small step towards making the meat industry greener.
Cheaper eggs too. Win win for everyone.
yeah but did you think of the reptiles.
Or the grinder's families
chick refers to hot girls though
Surviving roosters will now be awarded clothing with that have 'I survived the Seleggtion and all I got was this lousy T-shirt' written on them.
meh they' already got global warming. Oh you mean the pets....
is there really no better way to do that, holy fuck
Probably but don't worry about it just enjoy your Dunkin bacon egg and cheese.
The world is a shitty place. A place where kids are sent by their parents to the african mines to produce the metals that are invaluable to your computers and smartphones, where cute fuzzy animals are threshed like wheat by the billions, where its the womans fault for being raped in india, where people are chained to their cubicles and berated for leaving them and where half the world lives in abstract poverty.
So enjoy that Dunkin bacon egg and cheese because the african miners ,lil' chicklets and the stoned corpse can't. Enjoy it because if you don't there won't be any joy in the world to be had.
Are these eggs more expensive than the regular ones? I hope it becomes mandatory and not another one of those environmental-friendly premium products.
I've seen that so many times now that I've gotten desensitized to it. Every time someone wants to convince you meat is bad and you're a horrible person for liking it, they link you that video.
Still glad that part of the process is going to be unnecessary, though.
The good thing is that it will probably save the industry money in the long run, because they can save the 12 days worth of energy that's normally used to incubate the males, so it is likely to be adopted globally.
Just had a big old chicken dinner, really enjoyed it. Thanks.
When I first read this, I thought they made technology to warn bachelors of potential traps.
So would this be called an eggbortion then?
