So it DOES happen. Good to know the government has the balls every now and then.
Chemically castrate him before sending him to India. Turn him into an example for the rest.
or don't because forced, unnecessary surgeries on anybody, including criminals, is fucking horrific
The rest are whom exactly?
On the bright side, chemical castration is basically taking medication that lowers sex drive/libido. Not actually burning, removing or neutralizing genitals with acid or some stuff, that'd be surgical castration.
The more you know
won't he face the death penalty in India? i thought it was illegal to deport someone to a country where they'll potentially be executed.
Chemical castration isn't surgery, but I get your point. Still, I'm not sure I'd be that kind if this dude raped my kid or something.
So basically an indirect death sentence so they don't get their hands dirty
@Chryseus2 what exactly is "snowflake" about wanting convicted criminals to retain a degree of bodily autonomy?
Don't get me wrong, I can see how rehabilitating a pedophile can work out in the long run, but I can also see why people would want to murder these people. We're talking about talking away the essence of a person away at an age where they truly don't understand what has happened. They will never be the same, though they can rise above it those memories will live on, then the person who caused this pain is allowed to live a normal life if he proves himself capable enough to be in society again. I can believe in giving other people a second change, but I can definitely see why people would see child rapist as less than people, and really they are traumatized as well, never in the same mindset again. Vengeance however doesn't really solve those feelings at all, and it can cause more problems than it did in the first place.
Pedophiles are sick, sick people either way, they need help in some form, hopefully well before they cause pain on others.
oh ya because deliberately fucking with their hormone levels is not just as bad, especially when that policy lead to suicide more often then not.
Happy ending for everyone then.
Are they sending him back on the magical double decker bus that seems to be phasing out of existence in the op?
i don't give a damn if a pedo offs themselves but we simply can't do things that inhumane to prisoners, period.
Chemical castration doesn't fuck with your hormone levels, it just lowers or disable your sex drive without any form of bodily harm or permanent sterilization.
It's generally a much better alternative than being stuck in prison for an extended time especially when the prison population has a well documented dislike of pedos.
I guess we're going to have to differ strongly on this because I consider the death penalty to be inhumane for any crime. Not to mention it's significantly more expensive than life in prison.
FUCK outta here
it's actually really odd to me that the article doesn't mention the potential death penalty/inhumane treatment in India, or any assurances that such things won't happen. as far as i can tell this may be straight up illegal for our government to do, at least until (if?) we leave the EU and are no longer subject to the ECHR. am i just missing something really obvious?
I would guess he won't face punishment in India if the crime wasn't committed there.
seems to be the most plausible, since we legally wouldn't be able to deport him otherwise with child rape being a manadatory death sentence there
TBH chemical castration is a bettr alternative to surgical castration or outright lynching them. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that pedophilia is a psychological thing and that they can't help themselves from being attracted to young children any more than I can help being attracted to women or homosexuals to their own gender, but to enact those urges against someone who is unwilling and/or unable to consent to sexual activity is fucking disgusting especially when conducted in such a predatory manner.
I don't give a shit if they're fapping to artificial kiddie porn or fucking child-like sex dolls but jesus don't do that to a child. If suicide is a risky side effect of those who are ordered to undergo chemical castration as part of their release then so be it, they aren't Alan Turing.
As long as there is a non-zero chance that an innocent person could face the death penalty then I cannot justify it's existence in any case or for any crime.
"But what if you have super duper triply sure guaranteed evidence that they did it %100 no takesies-backsies would you kill a pedo then?" In a word, no because such thing does not exist and secondly I firmly believe
that as a society we have to rise above barbarism and feel-good justice otherwise we risk making ourselves no better than savages and frontier lawmen and if we can't be the better man we have no right to dictate
what justice is.
Glad to know you're cool with state sanctioned murder, should be real fun when the state decides to off someone you don't think deserves it.
I'm with @Chryseus2 on this one - anyone that actively seeks out and grooms children for sexual gratification doesn't deserve to live any kind of life.
Also, the death penalty isn't more expensive than life in prison, what's expensive is keeping inmates on death row. If there is clear-cut evidence that someone has raped a child, they shouldn't sit in a cell for decades awaiting their penalty. The penalty should be administered immediately once an established, factual basis of evidence exists without the slightest hint of doubt. That would be a hell of a lot cheaper than any of our current solutions - and the leftover millions could go towards the extremely long mental recovery the victim will face for the rest of their life (and organizations that provide such services).
Here in lies the issue, this almost never happens and so long as the tinest shred of doubt exists then we go to fair trail, prosecution and rights of appeal.
Denying someone their rights of appeal and so on would be a breakdown in the justice system that could lead to innocent deaths, which are unacceptable under any circumstances.
I won’t support a death penalty until you have a 100% accuracy rate in all convictions.
Until then, let em rot.
But what about the cases where there IS 100% proof, such as this one? Like I said, in cases where the evidence leaves no shred of doubt, end it. If there's any doubt, put them in prison.
I have zero sympathy for him either but that's not the point. The law isn't about morally justifiable actions, and just because something might be a good thing to do doesn't mean that it should be legally justifiable.
Welp, let them rot on the taxpayer's dime, I guess. When that money could go to far better things.
