Looks like Xi Jinping will be getting a whole lot of coal in his stocking this year.
China is scared of a holiday, pathetic.
Mr Xi is trying to broaden the appeal of the Communist Party by casting it as a crusader for Chinese tradition in a fast-changing world, he said. What like the one you destroyed and actively suppress Xi?
Imagine calling yourself a communist government and wanting to suppress the idea of a mysterious man dressed in red who distributes gifts equally across society
"traditional culture." Come quite a long way from Mao I will say, but still damn.
At least it doesn't seem like anyone's happy with this. But hey it is China you either submit or find loopholes.
How could Winnie the Pooh do such a thing.
And the pope let them name their own cardinals too. Which I absolutely don't agree with either but its a bit better than the dali lama
The idea is to make the party the culture, Christianity and Christmas is bad because it makes people praise in and believe in something that is not connected with the CCP. That's why a lot of Christian churches in China are forced to have pictures of Mao and other CCP propaganda in them and have to be monitored 24/7.
how about we show a big fuck you and boycott chinese new year
I'm aware but it really urks me that the ccp has the audacity to claim heritage to the culture they destroyed
It wasn't this bad under the previous few administrations. For a time, they were actually turning a blind eye to the house churches that are technically illegal under Chinese law. Xi Jinping is reversing basically every official and unofficial reform that has been made in China in the last couple decades - which is sadly unsurprising, given that he fashions himself after Mao.
Man, they really want people to say "Happy Holidays", don't they?
is this the War on Christmas my boomer coworkers were talking about
Man, it's fucking tragic seeing the way China is heading. Sure they've always been the adversary and a backwards dictatorship, but at least the previous top seemed somewhat open to the ideas of change. What the fuck is even going on now tho...
First the Muslims, now the Christians. This should have been expected, sadly.
Nah, China is a valued ally.
