I searched/looked around and did not see a thread for headphones. I wanted to know you guys opinions on headsets, I want to switch over to wireless but so far I have hit a wall. I can't seem to find anything that I like. The reason I am switching over to wireless is because of convince and the fact that with no cords nothing can get caught on it. I currently have a RIG 500E which I use the closed back ear-cans (500E comes with two sets of cans). I really like the sound as overall it is great for music, videos, and games. Biggest plus for me is I can really narrow people down playing FPS with footsteps with this headset. I've tried the RIG 800HD and the Corsair void pro rgb, I really liked how they were and how comfortable they where. But they sounded way to quiet in games. The void felt like all the audio was flat and muffled out, the Rig 800HD was slightly better but still quiet. I tried various configurations and EQ sets but nothing helped. So I wanted to know what you guys would recommend on the wireless side of things, if I'm going to stick with wired headsets I'll just order me another RIG 500E.
Kind of going down the same route as well. Have you checked out the SteelSeries Arctis 7, Logitech G533 or HyperX Cloud Flight by any chance? They're meant to be really good wireless headsets if you're after a wireless headset. For me however, I don't mind but I would like something quite good around £100. Doesn't matter if it has a mic or not since I have a Blue Yeti. I was either going for the Cloud Alphas, Arctis 5s or Audiotechnica ATH-M50X's but it's all but a struggle deciding between them.
I've been doing a lot of reading since posting this thread. Looks like my main issue is if I want a good set up I need to find a good pair of headphones and a DAC/AMP. I guess I'm going to stick with wired headphones for quality purposes. I've been looking at the Sennheiser HD 598, Audio-Technica ATH-AD900X, or Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X. Seems like the 598 is more of the middle ground and do it all headphone. AD900X has more bass then the AD700X, but what I gather it is around the same performance level. Sometimes when reading all this stuff I feel overwhelmed because it is like entering into a new level.
Any motherboard will do, it's just when you get into expensive headphones typically they don't match up in quality. AD700 is great for gaming (positional audio etc), but has a very niche sound signature for music. The 598s would be better if you intend to use them for music too. If you're open to (hehe) open-backed headphones with little isolation, the Fidelio X2 are great all round too.
I was thinking about getting the HD 58X, people are saying they're a lot better then the 598's and they're only around 150ish. 200+ is a little to much for my tastes at the moment.
The HD58X are 150 Ohms, you won't get the best out of them without an amp.
HD598 + Fiio E10k, buy second-hand or on sale and you're looking at around 200~
Yeah I saw that and bought a FiiO K3. Looked into it and it can run that headset and seemed like good bang for my buck.
All my stuff came in, hooked up my dac/amp and headphones. Amazing to be honest. For gaming its leaps better then a lot of the other headsets with 7.1 built in. Don't know how to explain it, but you can really pin people down easier. I feel as if there are a lot more details and location while you can pick up on it more accurately. Music and TV it's just as amazing. I thought I would hate having open backs, but it isn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Overall pretty solid and all together with the headset and amp/dac it is better than a lot of the higher end headsets that are sold specifically for gaming. Only challenge is now I got to get a new mic set up. I saw modmic being a good alternative, but I can get a regular mic and audio interface for the same price. But I'm not to concerned about it so far.
Not to keep bumping then, but just some additional info. Setup is complete. I found a nice table top usb mic Fifine 669b it was only 29.99. It sounds a lot better then most USB mics such as the yeti. It is also a big improvement over built in mics. Only reason i didn't get a modmic is because higher price but also you have to attach it to the headphones. These have a lot of mesh on the sides so I was worried about it not holding.
